i think this has come up before and i think we all decided that it is studio manipulation, though it seems unlikely.  it also sounds too real and harmonic to be an electronic thing, considering the date and budget.  it is just another mystery of crover's legendary drumming.  just like the drumbeat to boris (in relation to the guitar).  when you really listen to , you just think, what the fuck is going on here!?  it is so hard to make sense of.

In the Salad vid there is a cymbal that looks like an upside down cereal bowl in the middle of the set. what is that?

actually being a drummer for a really long time, that sound is a bell or the bell section of a cymbal with a large crack in it.  the edges created by the crack resonate together to leave that secondary sound.  i would get a friend to make bells for me using the bells of old cymbals and if a crack still persisted or it wasnt shaped perfectly round, it would create interesting sounds.

he was cool! I don't think Lori was really an animal abuser tho. I mean they went and donated money from their Your Choice record to animal shelters and all. Plus she's a crazy cat lady now in San Fran, being 54 and all.  :?
