I made it 30 seconds into it and realized how much I was cheating myself and stopped (Computer speakers related)
I can't wait for Amp Rep to put out the vinyl, for now Ill buy the CD on Tuesday. Being a bass player and a long time Melvins and Mr. Bungle lover this album has everything I have ever wanted. (Not a fan of the "lite" part of the title tho.)

It's different......which is fine by me. If I had to say what album it reminded me of most I'd say H.A.T.

Definately needs a few spins as expected. Off the bat I like the actual tune Freak Puke & Let Me Roll It best so far.

i just finished listening to it...i think it is one of their best....great pairing with trevor.....it's really really really fucking great.....i can see the comparison with h.a.t......also reminds me of stuff that would be on honkey in terms of loose guitar parts.....this is dales most different drumming to date, great compliment with the stand up bass.......very happy right now.....the vocals remind me of some of the new harmonizing stuff they do with big biz but they still through enough spice in their that still gives it it's own flavor.......

On first listen, I love it!

1. Mr Rip Off - For some reason I was expecting this to be instrumental experimentation, thanks to the piss poor reviews I read, but it's a song.  The bowed standup bass creates a very cool atmosphere.  This song vaguely reminds me of their recent cover of Sacrifice with a mix of perhaps Tipping the Lion, but it really doesn't sound much like either one.  Very cool!

2. Inner Ear Rapture - This is the instrumental experiment.  I think it's pretty cool but I think a lot of people will probably think it's little more than Trevor dicking around on the bass.  I almost thought Dale was playing The Bloat for a second at the beginning.

3. Baby, Won't You Weird Me Out - Interesting intro that almost sounds like classical music before the Buzz riff comes in.  All three band members are doing a lot here!  Great song with lots of cool bass solos and drumming that's all over the place.

4. Worm Farm Waltz - Cool musicianship but the jury is out on the vocals...the end kind of reminds me of Frank Zappa's Willie the Pimp for some reason.

5. A Growing Disgust - Still my favorite song on the record and possibly one of my favorite Melvins songs.  Kind of reminds me of The Bit mixed with The Anti Vermin Seed but doesn't really sound much like either.

6. Leon vs The Revolution - Possibly one of the most 70's rock sounding songs they've done but I love it.  Fight! Fight! Fight! Fight! Fight!

7. Holy Barbarians - Slow and atmospheric but not very heavy.  This one probably wouldn't sound too out of place on Honky.

8. Freak Puke - Cool effects!  A very unique song.  Another one of my favorites.

9. Let Me Roll It - If you've heard the live version there are no surprises here.  It's still a great song though and it's nice to have a studio version.  Buzz has a great voice!

10. Tommy Goes Berserk -  Starts out kind of mellow and then speeds up.  There's quite a bit going on here.  I really like it!  I have no idea why that one reviewer thinks it's a jab at Pink Floyd's Bike.  Am I missing something?


Freak Puke is kind of like the fucked up son of Stag, Honky, and H.A.T. but don't go into it expecting those albums.  It's one of the less accessible/weirder albums but it's probably a little easier to get into than Honky.  It rocks, but I wouldn't really call it heavy.

So far I think it's great!  I'm sure casual fans aren't going to like this one.

Leon vs the Revolution sounds like it would fit well on Stoner Witch.  Parts of the guitar sound eerily similar to Revolve.  not that that's a bad thing

Baby, Won't You Weird Me out and Tommy are really awesome, the rest of the album sounds very cool too (except maybe IER, not my style but it's just a first listening..)

And maybe it is my all out love of Zappa and people like Buckethead that makes me come at this album and not find it all that inaccessible.

Digging the hell out of this one.

Totally not hearing this, at all.
That said, I would love to hear them do a cover of Willie the Pimp.
I think that if anything sounds Zappaesque it is Inner Ear Rupture, perhaps when Sugarcane Harris was in the band, like say, Weasels Ripped My Flesh.
