Im not sure about the sound since NWB but i see what you mean. I agree completely with your analysis of Tres though. Don't get me wrong it has some songs i really like in the recent Melvins cannon (namely 'City Dump' and 'American Cow') but as a whole it feels a bit tossed off. The three "funny" tunes don't help the flow either. Im REALLY hoping that the band put out something i love again soon. 'Freak Puke' got close to that for me (bar it's last three songs) but everything else since NWB has been a let down (in one way or another) for me personally.

Razor: I know that with an ongoing career of 30 years have to change your sound from time to time but if you compare bullhead and lysol, they sound completely different from eachother despite of both being recorded in - roughly- one year apart. Now take sausages and tres cabrones and they sound completely the same, while being recorded in quite the same amount of time like lysol and bullhead. And that is a real pity. One reason why I love the melvins is their changing studio sound and this has been taken away since a senile animal (drum sound) or nude with boots (guitar sound).

Conda: I read that buzz wanted to write songs that would fit with dillards drumming skills and I think that he wrote too easy songs with this in mind. The only song where he really shines through is walters lips and I know that they already played it 30 years ago but why didnt buzz hold on to this one and write some punkish songs for dillard? I just think that tres cabrones could be so much better with more..advanced drumming material than the 'standard' grooves.

I'd agree with this but I accept it for what it is. I'm not the biggest fan of the new "sound" in terms of tonality (is that a word?) but who am I to have an opinion when we are still getting quality music from these guys? I've just learnt to accept it and be thankful the Melvins aren't like the Stones

I think one reason is that in the old days they changed studios/engineers quite a bit but Toshi had been doing the last couple. Not sure if he still does their records, but it would be one reason why they all sound so similar in terms of tone. These days they probably even record at the same studio each release. In the early 90s they changed all the time. Just a theory though, I'm sure Anaconda will or someone will correct me!

I felt the album was very listenable and it threw a couple of spanners in the works to the original sound. I remember listening to the "Dr Mule" Single and wondering if this was really buzz singing, it felt quite surreal. Additionally it changed up the formulas for regular Melvins song structuring. For instance I feel you could group "The Onions Make The Milk Taste Bad"  and "The Bloated Pope" in the same category for structuring, as they both have an eerily similar groove/ feel. Songs like "Dogs and Cattleprods" and "I Told You I Was Crazy" feel different to anything they've ever done before (I'd love too see them done live too). 
Just my opinion but, I don't feel as if this album is lesser just because of Dillard's drumming ability...Buzz and Dale still deliver the goods.

There are no "good ol' days" for the melvins. There are no "periods". Every new album is a new entity that lives within its own world and you philisitne dipshits can't get your head out of your asses enough to realize this.

How many fucking times does Buzz and Dale have to repeat that they have a long ass catalogue of riffs dating back YEARS. There are many songs that are released TODAY which were initially written during your bullshit assessment of the "good ol' days"

Finally, I think some of you know-it-all assholes neet a fucking reality check. I find it HILARIOUS, how some of you speak so liberally of the recordings and writting of the material as though you have any intimate knowledge of those processes.

You don't like an album, a song? Fine, how about just leaving it at that instead of pontificating and coming off as sorry cry baby know-it-alls.

Why do every Melvins album from the BB era on sound basically the same? I really loved the double drumming sound from senile animal etc but I don´t get it why Dale has just transferred the sound to albums where he´s playing alone? I really love HAT and Bullhead for example because of their completely different sounding drums but since a senile animal they sound the same which is a real pity.. It´s the same with the guitar sound but only since everybody loves sausages. I mean I really love the cutting sound of EGC guitars but since they are on every single record after nude with boots, the sound is getting...old?

Oh, I remember that.  It's basically fan art, the guy that did it came on here and mentioned it, he's been selling it on ebay for a while.
