Basses Loaded
« on: June 10, 2015, 03:23:45 PM »
I saw the Melvins live in El Paso TX on June 7th (Though I live in LA, tickets sell out so fast there that I've missed them a few times, it's also less crowded to see them in El Paso when I visit family) and talked to Dale for a bit. He confirmed that they're finishing the release they've been working on since 1999 with Mike Kunka of godheadSilo (he didn't specify if it was an EP or full length).

Also more Melvins Lite with Trevor. This is known.

But more a more interesting nugget came out when he said that they're working on a full length record with many of the bass players they've used, he said the record's name is tentatively "All Basses Loaded"

So a record with a revolving line of bass players including Trevor, Jared and Pinkus. I asked if Ruthmanis would take part and it seemed like he might not. But he didn't say no, he just seemed hesitant to confirm him.

Can't wait!!!   :D :D :D

so wait... the Kunka collab is supposed to be an album that allegedly featured three bassists.
The titles "Mike and the Melvins" and "Three Men and A Baby" were thrown around a bunch at that time.

and now their also going to do another album with Jared, Coady, Pinkus and Trevor all together on it as well???

they must have been free-bassing! to come up with this

I don't think he said the Kunka one was supposed to have three bass players. Let me read it again.....  :nerd:

The Kunka project is different than All Basses Loaded. Dale didn't specify if the Kunka album has 3 basses.

Dale confirmed this new album in the podcast interview. I think he says it's just called 'Basses Loaded'. Apparently it will feature the BB guys, Trevor, Melvins '83, Krist Novoselic and (if he wasn't joking) Paul McCartney!!

How on earth did the interviewers not ask him about McCartney????  They must have been asleep!

Also Steve McDonald from Redd Kross is playing on a couple of songs.

He said McCartney, but I think he said "a la McCartney" in reference to something.  Not that McCartney was on the record.

It was a hard interview to listen to due to the phone lines lagging and being pretty quiet.  It was hard to hear exactly what was said.

"a la McCartney"
Maybe someone's wife will join in on tambourine and disjointed backup vocals.  :buzz:

I just had another listen to that section of the interview and i think you're right. Im pretty sure it was "Steve McDonald plays some extravagant bass a la McCartney". So no Paul. Sorry for providing exciting, yet ultimately incorrect info guys.

It's funny that I never once doubted the possibility of McCartney actually playing with the Melvins. At this point(well always I guess but especially now) who knows what they're gonna do next. Melvin and McCartney? Sure!
I do love Steve McDonalds playing a lot so I'm really looking forward to this!

This makes sense - Steven McDonald is a total reincarnation of Sir Paul on the bass.

And this gets me closer to my dream of "MELVINS KROSS" with Buzz, Dale and Steven & Jeff McDonald as a super group. It just NEEDS TO HAPPEN!

im just gonna throw it out there that paul needs to happen.

a friend of mine on facebook said he was staying at a house in phoenix? i think or something like that anyway he said paul had once knocked on that very door by mistake because the neighbor builds guitars for him. kinda weird story but i would totally devote my life to trying to get ahold of paul and get him to play with the melvins before someone dies

It's just called Basses Loaded by the way.

September of next year.
Krist is definitely on it.
Trevor, Jared, Pinkus, Steven McDonald and Dale on bass.

They talked about it a bit on Protonic.
It's a full year away though, Mike & the Melvins first.
