I'm sure The Beach Boys will enjoy their homage.

I imagine 'Goodnight Sweet Heart' will be pretty close to this 2011 version. It is intriguing to me that sometimes covers the band perform live take a good few years to finally appear on a studio release. I wonder why that is.

I'll bet you five bucks just judging on the beach boys song...it's A clever alleviation to the title which is probably supposed to actually be "Fucking with god"

Im sure there is some kind of other thing being alluded to. But maybe not that, but possibly. I think it's quite telling that within the two "O"s of the cover it reads "good" and "dog". Buzz has spoken before about how he sees his dogs (and dogs in general) as "spiritual giants". Perhaps there is something going on there in the title.

As for 'I Fuck Around', i think it is interesting that the album starts with that rather direct, rude message and yet ends in (as far as we currently understand) a sweet, sincere farewell message to ones sweetheart. It is interesting to me how they are both polar opposite bookends in this respect. Both old covers and yet so opposed in manner.

It's great they have such a vast catalog of deep cuts and covers to draw from. There must be over 100 non-album b-sides, singles from 7"s, live recordings and tracks from compilations. Any of those could sliced and diced in numerous ways for future albums. Slowed down, sped up, sung by a different singer, turned into electronica, played with a ukulele. In theory, the Melvins could play forever, releasing just a couple of originals and using older material and covers for the rest. See Euthanasia, Untitled #2 (Noise) and some of their Electroretard remixes for examples of repurposed material.

How I'd love to get updated versions of Sawed Off and the Love Canal single.

I sometimes fantasize about a gluttony/residency style live record where they just play this rare stuff. Pigskin/Starve would be awesome with Steven.

I'm sure it'll be a divisive one but I love "Fuck Around" as far as arrangement and performance. I also loved "Stop Moving to Florida" so there you go, I guess.

Also a bit interesting that we're nine pages deep on the "Mullet" thread and two days on this one, but themelvins.net homepage has no new announcement since White Lazy Boy.
