Melvins turn 40 next year so I thought this would be good to keep hold of anything pertaining to the Ruby.

Greg Werckman has vaguely commented on next year's tours being booked but I'm curious if there are plans for special occasions of any kind. Not necessarily because 40 is such a big deal but they weren't doing too many "specials" in recent years before the break.

Stuff like opening up for themselves as '83 for the 25th anniversary or fusing a Melvins Lite set with Big Melvins, Grumpy's, curating ATP, let alone the Residencies and numerous blowouts at GAMH with all that Ipecac cross-pollination happening. Plus Jello!

The Pinkus Abortion double bass lineup was also fun and hearing it live had me mulling over the rich lineup possibilities we have at this stage. It doesn't need to be a full-on tour but imagine a couple nights with all those heads playing together as an amorphous blob of Melvins. Shit, they might even get Leary out of the house.


In a 2013 thread gathering questions for an interview, GrimReaper asked:

5) After 30 years most bands are rehashing the "hits" at the Indian Casino amplitheaters. Where will the Melvins be in 2023 during a 40th anniversary tour?

I think it's fair to ask that again, not lastly because setlists have been a general point of discussion.

The possibilities are vast, the catalogue is deep, and I'm willing to drop good money on celebrating those old fucks.

I am betting they will have a tour, tour posters and a shirt - but outside of that? They just did a 4 album acoustic tribute to themselves.

I remember going to the 20th anniversary tour and getting a T-shirt. I remember going to the 30th anniversary tour and getting a poster.

Not to rain on the parade but Buzz (and therefore by extension Dale) never seems bothered about milestones. It doesn't seem to factor into his plans. Also i remember in a recent interview a couple of months ago Buzz said that "next year i will probably do a large tour with Trevor Dunn". So we may not see much Melvins touring at all. Perhaps 2023 will be what 2020 should have been. A year where Buzz goes on the road with Trevor whilst Dale and Steven do the Redd Kross thing. Still i agree, it would be nice for them to do at least a couple of 40 year shows and make it special in some way.

With Redd Kross putting out the Neurotica re-issue and them not really getting to do any touring after Beyond the Door came out, I am hoping to get some Redd Kross touring - or at least LA shows!!!

I was at the 20th in Olympia, with an old workmate of mine. Can't remember how he ended up driving to Olympia.  I think I had blow & go in my vehicles and wanted to drink.

I don't remember them playing Hung Bunny at this show. I have the setlist from that night and it's not on there. I have a recording of the Portland show from a few nights before and they didn't play it then either. I don't think they played it on that tour. Sure it's not from another tour?

I've been deliberately kicked in the head by a few stage divers in my day.

Actually now that I think about it some dude did stage dive during Hung Bunny when I saw them do the evening with set in 2013. No one caught him and he smacked the ground hard.

Dude was also was whacked out on all kinds of drugs and got kicked out before the second set. He legit forgot how to open a door so he tried to climb over it.
