It's a shame that there's almost a box set now worth of quality material(mainly Melvins83) that have not and won't likely ever get played live. That's sort of why I'm not making the drive to Cleveland to see this upcoming  tour, even with Coady back in the fold. Will the show be great and crushing? Yes, but you know already what 75% of the setlist will be with a few songs that they haven't busted out in yrs to sort of make it unique.

That's one of the things I love about Zappa's live recorded output. Any of his lineups could play any song from any era for the most part when asked to, like The 1980 band could play songs from 1965, the 1981 band could play songs from 1971, etc.

I wasn't sure about the new song, but hearing it a few times now i like it! Why do Melvins do this to me EVERY damn time? Each new song and album sounds so disappointing on first listen and then after a few times it wins me over!

the bloat

I try to restrain myself and just listen to any pre-released songs 1 or 2 times and THATS IT! otherwise when the full album comes out I will have tired on some of the previously released material. Who's with me???

Same, 100%. I know it's bad for the Melvs, too, as this means less "engagement" for the algorithm.

I'm interested in seeing what the other songs on this one are like. Buzz said he wanted to do something "bombastic" and i'm not hearing that in Victory Of The Pyramids. Or at least not my interpretation of bombastic. So maybe the other songs are more dynamic and "large".

Also i don't know why, but i have a feeling that one, maybe both of the first much shorter two songs on the album will be weird instrumental things. Something where Void Manes and Ni Maitres take more centre stage. Buzz seems to like starting an album in a way that makes a statement about what the record is. I could see them doing that here.

I'm totally playing left field on void manes, where would I start to know more about why I should really be into and appreciate this.

I wonder if this is the first Melvins album Dale isn't on (that isn't Mangled Demos)? We don't actually know for Throbbing Jazz, right?

Possibly. I know in the photos from the recording of Throbbing, Dale doesn't seem present. But then it said ONE of the sessions. So he was probably involved somewhere along the line or maybe just took the photos. It's an odd decision that he isn't on Thunderball. It begs a few questions but i guess he didn't technically NEED to be there if Mike was drumming and Buzz could just do the bass himself. But yeah, it's a weird development. I wonder if we will see more of this arrangement.

Garth played bass on this didn't he? I agree though strange Crover wasn't on it, first proper Melvins album without him, I don't like that. Obviously it must've been recorded during Crover's recovery period but Buzz couldn't wait until he was fit enough to play bass? Or allow him to record his bass parts once he got healthy?
