Either there are posts now missing from this thread or I just didn't bother to embed a quote.

I was a newcomer then.

someone said they thought It was mike patton screaming on the track or something in their post.

anyway Honky Is like an acidheads worst nightmares.

it's not even human.

it's more animal than man.

by far in it's own league beyond any other melvins album.

I just know that I got the CD honky and it was different at the time than the CDs for sale usually had the square corner transparent jewel cases this one was a black cardboard flap-front that I later ripped off and decorated something with a bong maybe I forget, anyway I listened to this over and over with a couple of friends who had no choice when they were in my car to hear this album over and over ha ha ha. got these dudes into the melvins too. he liked the one that sounds like the runaway train best. I liked every single second of this album and the way it is sequenced, even. You know, it was so long ago, or it just seems that way, but I kinda have forgotten how good the songs on this album are and I personally think it makes it even better, like that, in order, starting at track 1, 'how it used to be in the old days' haha

all of them    they must    be slaughtered > it was 20 yrs ago today (sike nah just kidding sorry paul)

because you have good tastes?

should we start talking about production of recent melvins albums compared to their old stuff?   :later:

For a while I've sort of indirectly avoided this album. It was easy as the vinyl is not that common, I think the vinyl was only made in Germany? Anyhow, this album kicks ass. It is totally weird, and the only vocals that even sound like Buzz remotely are the ones on Mombius Hibachi...which is a killer song! I especially love the riff in the intro (aka the heavy as fuck part) and also the vocals at the end of Grin. "In the Freaktose The Bugs Are Dying" is heavy as hell and a cool way to end the album. It almost seems like a foreshadowing of The Maggot which was a few years away at that point. I really like this album a whole lot even though it is far from anything you would normally even halfway expect from them. If I had to describe this album with one statement it would be this:

Honky= Ambient soundscapes of gooey Melvins goodness!!!

i honestly thought these guys had broken up after Stag. there was just general lack of information and the internet was slim back then. it wasn't until 98 that i read in some Metal mag from one of my friends that they were doing Ozzfest. so i jumped on his computer and found out about Honky and checked out the samples from CDNOW, ran out and got the album the next day.

i tortured my black metal loving friend for as i could with it. he liked it but i think his mind was blown more or less and that kinda bothered him.

i loved it then and i do now. i mean Stag was wild but this is further down the rabbit hole. which was kinda disconcerting at the time....wondering if they'll come back.

they did and i did too. and here i am.
