the Bloat is a damn fine song! and Stag is a great ending chapter to
the Atlantic trilogy, I see the 3 Atlantic releases as the original trilogy,
a set, much like the Maggot/Bootlicker/Crybaby trio

And it's always been known as the first trilogy anne... hence people calling it the Atlantic trilogy. To me, it's when the Melvins reached their peak. I consider Mark D to have been just important as the other 2 members. It makes me quite mad he had to leave.... close to if Dale or Buzz had to leave, except they were in from the beginning so they're much more important and it's buzz's band basically, so they'd be nothing without him. Mark D's bass on those albums was equally important as Buzz's guitar at times. To me, he became 1/3 of the Melvins, and noone has been fully able to fill that void.

Mark D was cool but kevin floors them all i reckon. he's the most equal member they've had and the most exciting to listen to. He plays they're doomy stuff so much cooler than anybody else and obviously kicks ass on the punky stuff. What's with that bell he has on his bass?
I love stag but i find that i listen to the atlantic stuff the least 'cos they have the most commercial sounding production.
it's not that it's not interesting (far from it) but it has this sort of glaze that covers it all up.
H.A.T is my favourite for production. that and The Maggot
