the bloat

Stag is the Melvins most expansive work to date spanning the realm of rock, hard rock and rock n' roll.
I have a creepy feeling that like, ten or fifteen years down the road, bands will start to "borrow" some of the Melvins work and it will start to seep into the cracks of mainstream music. Songs like 'Goggles' and 'Skin Horse' are completely unique and too good of ideas to just fade into obscurity.
This record is an atomic bomb packed with ideas and experiments and I think the repercussions have yet to be felt.
The Melvins are to metal what the Velvet Underground was to rock.

that's cause you're a young child with little taste... Your ear for music is trash at the moment.
I reccomend coming back in a few years when you're ready

Quote from: crazyslapI heared so many cool coments about this album, but when i lisened to it t'other day, i thought it was shit. Its so fucking weird. Actully, there are 1 or 2 good tunes nearer the end but most of it sounds like weird, creepy noises. Disapointed.

if stag is weird to you...........

..... youve got a long way to go
..... but dont worry when youll like sunn ...... youll be ok

I still don't really get Sunn o))). I saw them live and it was a spectacle with the robes and the throat singing and all, but the records don't do much for me. Apart from the track with Julian Cope which is really funny. Kind of like the spoken word bit of Stonehenge stretched out for 25 minutes.

Stick with Stag though. Maybe listen to Honky a bit first to make it a bit easier.
For your health!

Stag is the Melvins White Album.

Don't be concerned about not "getting" Sunn o))), I do not care for them either. I have the album you speak of with that Julian Cope thing. I wish I didn't buy the album because after hearing it a few times, it stays in my CD case and is starting to petrify. But I was curious after reading about them. The various articles I read touted they worship at the altar of Earth so I thought what the heck. It was a regrettable mistake.

It happens a lot, eg. GRUNGE.
Also, the year Stag came out - Marilyn Manson stole the the riff from Berthas for The Beautiful People.
