Stag is just their masterpiece with Marc D. on bass. It's an amazing record, really weird in a psychedelic way. I always ask myself where they would have gone musically with Deutrom.
They could never produce such an album with Kevin. He's weird in another way

There's a few more direct rip-offs I can think of, namely
My Hero by the Foo fighters (Night Goat) and Milk It by Nirvana (It's Shoved).
Also, "I'm Broken" by Pantera sounds a bit like "Queen"...

But really, to me those songs have similar tempo, structure and riffs. They came out the same year too.
Okay it's a bit of a long shot.
However, Melvins were definatly one of Pantera's influences.

Yeah. It seems to me like they liked the Ozma production sound by the sound of Vulgar Display of Power. Which is rather weird.

i felt exactly like you do about them
but at the moment, i just fucking DIG them, it took me a month to GET them. (it took me 3 months to get the melvins tho.) i only got Flight of the Behemoth, and it gives me a beatiful mood, its dry but..... its hard to describe it...

Cheers for the link. I agree with some people that it's definitely best when you're not sitting down in front of the stereo trying to 'get' it. Good music to work or do the washing up to. Earth 2 is definitely easier to get into, it has more recogniseable riffs if anyone wants to enter the world of drone somewhere. Have you heard Growing? It's like the more pretty version of Sunn o)))
