Colossus of Destiny

[Eponymous]

"Colossus of Destiny" is stolen directly from John Fante's fantastic novel, The Road to Los Angeles.  It is the name that the protagonist, Arturo Bandini, plans for his masterwork, the artistic culmination of his entire life.  An apt title for that particular album if you ask me.  John Fante was a HUGE influence on Charles Bukowski by the way; so if you are a fan of the Buk, definitely check out Fante (especially his early work from the 1930's...)

Fante was completley blind when he wrote a lot of his books. He dictated to his wife.

The Road to Los Angeles is a great book.  Kind of hard to grasp at first, but then you realize that it's actually funny!

I wish the melvins would put out more albums along the lines of COD, out of all my melvins (and melvin's connection) albums, I listened to COD the most in the last year or so, the next runner up would be fantomas - Delirium Cordia.  But COD, in my opinion, has never been a completed work, it always leaves me wanting more, that's probably why I end up listening to it more than once when I pull it out.  and you know what....  I'm going to throw it on right now - THANKS
