i know this album has been brought up before.  i finally gave it another chance recently and it's really grown on me.  if freelance jazz went grunge...that's C.O.D.

Yeah, since it is very experimental I think a lot of people don't dig it. But remember, it is a live performance, and they really pull off some cool stuff. The album ends with a monstrous version of "Eyes Flys" that is worth the price alone. Do not ignore this album.

I agree. COD is an interesting improv album. I think you have to have a liking for noisey type soundscapes to appreciate it.

I just remembered, in a recent interview, I think their last with Kevin, Buzzo said that this was his favorite album out of anything they had done.

I don't necessarily agree with this. I consider myself a huge fan and have everything that they have released and some albums of theirs I like more than others, but I just really thought this one was shit.

I think it was successful in that it displays that side of the Melvins live performance, which I have endured a few times in person, but it just happens to be a side of the Melvins that I find annoying.

i don't know.  for alot of the Melvins fans who don't like their experimental or noise approaches it just like "you're missing out on half of the band!"  but i wouldn't call them more or less of a fan.  i respect it because they're not following them blindy.

but yeah, C.O.D. is why i love the Melvins.  i can put an album on, and not understand it at first.  and then give it another chance and somehow it all makes sense.  they really do make music for themselves and forget about the accessability of it.

I am a true Melvins fan, but I don't necessarily believe everything Buzz thinks of doing is complete genius. Who wants to buy my copy?

I agree.  I didn't care for COD or Crybaby much, but the majority of the melvins albums are great IMO

How can you not like the Crybaby if you like their other albums? The only new thing is the country songs and those are awesome anyway.

I can see how the Crybay is different than other Melvins releases. It just feels different. There is no cohesiveness and so it doesn't really fit into a mood or ever gain any kind of momentum. Songs go from country to some crazy Patton shit and then there's a slow prog song and then some fast metal. It's just all over the place and not in a good way.

I think the Crybaby sucks overall, but it has it's moments.

They didn't write everything on the Crybaby, and Buzz doesn't sing on it. 2 clear reasons why someone wouldn't like the album as much.

Personally, it's my least favourite.
