some people said that the bassline in A History Of Bad Man sounded like the one in Night Goat. They're pretty alike indeed. I dunno if someone already posted this, but the AHOBM bassline and the one in The Man With The Laughing Hand Is Dead are exactly the same, the AHOBM bassline is just a bit faster and distorted. Don't get me wrong, I'm not bitchin around about it. I don't think it's a bad thing cuz AHOBM and TMWTLHID are totally different songs.

It's pretty impressive that they can use the exact same bassline for two songs and make the songs sound completely different.

I still love ASA and still think it's one of their best albums.  I've been addicted to the last two songs lately.  They are underrated gems.

I finally got a copy of this in vinyl.

#4/300

Classic.  This album ranks up there with classics like Black Sabbat ST, Paranoid, Led Zeppelin I, Red, etc.  The songwriting is beyond top notch, its epic.  The flow is masterful and solid.  No note is wasted or overstays its welcome.  The 3 last songs are pure epic, monolithic bliss.  Civilized Worm is among the 10 best rock songs ever recorded in my book.   I'd say Stag is still their best record overall, but (A) Senile Animal has more punch.  I keep wondering what the public's reaction would have been had this been their major label debut in 1993.

I finally got a copy of this on vinyl. I got the 4 LP Blue and Yellow copies with all the fancy drawings.  I was surprised to only pay $60 on Ebay for one in perfect condition. How much were these new? Couldn't have been much less than $40...I don't know much about Hydra Head records but6 they take packaging to the next level. All in all this is a pretty solid album to me, the standout tracks being "Civilized Worm" and "History Of Bad Men"....in fact I am hooked on the History of bad men song and can't stop singing it, been stuck in my head for the past week.

Question for the record nerds: Normally I always poly bag each LP and store the LP in the sleeve in the bag behind the record to avoid ring wear on the cover. Im thinking this set is really made to put then in the assigned slots and I should just chill....or should I store them separately?  (Holy shit I am a huge nerd/spazz for even asking that! lol)

when I bought mine (clear blue vinyl) off hydra head it was $45 if I remember correctly.

I believe Senile, in a few years, will be regarded as one of the top Melvins' records. It will be the new Houdini.

anaconda

It already is! In my household anyways! ASA is where they completely re-ignited their career.
I stand by this statement. I literally cried when I first heard it because they made a perfect
album that assured them a lucrative future. Without question.

It only does that part that's similar to night goat two times in the progression, then it does something else for two measures before the bass line repeats.  It's not night goat really, you guys are way over analyzing this shit.

I said that because it will take even longer for Bullhead and Eggnog to really be embraced by the mainstream.

anaconda, I agree 100%

I was talking about History of Bad Men having the same bassline as Man With the Laughing Hand is Dead.

The same bassline is also used in one of the Purge of Dissidents tracks.
