Best Melvins Bass Player

i mean Jared alone for what he does at the beginning of "the Bit".  i really wonder what the band would've sounded like if Joe was in it longer.

yes, i have seen the new four piece play it!!!  it's the heaviest fucking song in the world when they play it.  when the drums kick in that's all you hear.  makes the earth shake.

I like Jared in general more than any of the other bassists, but as for what I think fits best with the Melvins sound, I'd have to say Kevin and Mark.

Hopefully Jared will put out a few more great records with them and prove me wrong.

To pick the best bass player I guess you are essentially picking your favorite album(s) or song(s).  My opinion on thier best song or album has changed so many times. That being said currently I would say Joe. He may have been lazy and a shity performer live but there is no denying his influence on lysol.

Switching bass players is part of what makes the melvins who they are. Every bassist that has played for them has contributed something to thier sound. I hope to see them go through alot more line up changes before the end.

And the other way around, in a way the Melvins have always sounded like their bass player, just compare the different areas of the band. With the latest two albums especially, it seems as if Buzz's writing music specifically for the current line up.

Word on the street is that Dale is jamming with Al Cisneros, as part of the preparations for Shrinebuilder, also featuring Scott Kelly of Neurosis and Wino.

I dont think the melvins really intend to go through so many bass players, as it just seems like bad luck for them. From interviews, buzz has stated several times that kevin was permanent and he is part of the definite lineup of the melvins, he lasted so long... longer than any of their ther past bassists. Now they have two new members... having 2 new members as i would imagine it would mean a much longer commitment... i couldnt picture one of the big biz guys getting kicked out and the other staying, talk about awkward. I guess the only way the big biz guys would leave the band is if buzz just came to this realization that the melvins are better off with another bass player.

Intentional or not switching bass players has been a good thing for them including firing kevin. I realy dont believe this is the final line up.

lets rephrase that as "I believe buzz and dale will record and possibly perform again without jared and coady".     I don't like this whole "final" or "the end" crap.

but like Fes said..   I don't think they whack people just for shites and guy-guls. their hand is normally forced by the bass-ee in question.   so unless jared and/or coady go completely off the deep end (which I do not forsee) this will be the line-up for awhile.   

and on that token,  how do they go back to a single drummer and no jared on vocals?  they'd have to abandon alot of the material from the last 3 years.  which to some people might not be a bad thing. not to mention its kinda what happened to the "kevin-era" material.  you hear very little of it today.  did I just answer my own question?

Ya pretty much. I see the BB guys staying in the Melvins for maybe one more album & tour after NwB. I think this situation is a little different than Mark D. or Kevin, Jared and Coady have a good thing going with Big Business so they may eventually decide to leave & not the usual someone getting kicked out. A trilogy would be good and it would make sense too, considering the Melvins' history. I don't think Buzz & Dale would give a shit either if Jared & Coady left.
