Aeinima is one of the best albums ever released in the history of the world

of course so is most of the Melvins catalog

Greasy Statement

i'm kind of in the same boat as glen. i first saw tool at lollapalooza '93 and they were quite good. really intense and in your face. friends of mine bought undertow and i liked a few songs here and there, but overall it didn't move me. i bought opiate because it was cheap and i had the same response. there's just something lacking overall and like glen, i feel it's lack of heft in the music. after dropping big bucks seeing BB open for them this year, their live show confirmed that belief. i've wanted to give them a chance, though. and yes, their "army" of fans are a bunch of knobs...

Adam Jones was at the Fantomas show in Brisbane.  I just bought a beer and saw this dude by himself near the bar. I thought "he looks familiar" but never paid much attention. He happened to be standing behind me a little bit later and I asked if I was blocking his view (because I'm pretty tall), I noticed he had an American accent when he said "no its alright"  Still just thought he looks like someone I've seen before.  It wasn't until a few days later seeing a picture of Tool and then realising where I saw that guys face before.  Thought it was pretty cool but didn't care too much I didn't strike up a conversation when I had the chance.

I've been heavily into The Melvins forever, but I swear the first time I heard Stinkfist, which was live before Aenima was released, I thought for sure these guys must really like The Melvins.  Maybe it was just the structure of that song more than anything else, but I saw a connection there somehow.

Their live shows lack intensity.
Several of the dates of the most recent tour have yes, the Lateralus tour they were still mixing up the setlist and showed a lot of energy throughout a majority of their live shows this period (I've got nearly 110 Tool DVDs, and the majority are from 2001-2002). But every show I have before the Lateralus tour they were amazing each night. I mean like every show I've gotten to listen to and see up to the Coachella '99 show was as energetic and engaging as nearly any band I've ever seen. The 1998 tour was my favorite, with Buzz coming out each night to do covers and varied setlists each date, also the Melvins opening each night must have been nice. But my point is that for a long time they were very intense and its just recently that they have gotten a little old, and though I think their material has actually gotten better their performances do lack a bit of energy now. They still put on a damn good show each night, I've listened to a good majority of this and last years dates that have been recorded.

TOOL are brilliant...one of the top 10 all-time bands. I always find it interesting that the greatest bands can be hated by some.....Patton and Justin Chancellor hate the masters of the masters, The Beatles.

I've tried.   and tried.

it just doesn't happen for me.

I hate to pick on such a close friend to Buzz but there is no crunch in the guitars what-so-ever.
its overly technical and void of any personality.

in my opinion.
Paul McCartney is my favourite Beatle.

the only reason i put tool up higher on the scale than Melvins (only 1 spot down on my little favorite scale) is because ive like them longer, plain and simple, i had my first tool experience when i was 8, i used to hang out with this year 16 year old girl, we would sit in my grandmas front yard and talk, and her topic of choice was ALWAYS tool.

Geddy and Alex of RUSH like Melvins and TOOL...I know this for a fact...have you heard Victor ?
Paul McCartney is my favourite Beatle.

How would you rate the last two Tool albums?  (In comparison to Aenima and Undertow?)
p.s. Patton also hates Wolfmother!
