EGO the Living Planet

QuoteThe once was the FantoMelvins Big Band release. I love Fantomas, I love Melvins and I'd imagine the two would be great together, if recorded in a studio or with a decent live recording setup. Usually I'm not one to bitch about raw/unpolished recording quality (as my taste for punk, grindcore, and black metal would show) but with 2 bands that have a wide range of dynamics (not to mention a lot of heaviness) coming together in one place ,extra attention to detail is needed to make each sound discernable. I think that release is too unpolished sounding. (and not in the awesome Flipper or Mainliner way).

That one wasn't intended for release. They recorded it for archival purposes, but word got out that a recording existed and they got enough requests sayin' "I don't care if it doesn't sound good, I'll buy it" that they kinda had to put it out. I seem to recall it's priced inexpensively to make up for that, but it's been a while. Either way, I was on of those requesters so I can't complain. I'd love to hear a Melvins/Fantomas Big Band studio recording. Hell, now it could have three drummers.

If this box set contains "everything they've released on Ipecac",  presumably that would include the H.A.T. singles b-sides and the alternate "Safety Third" (or is it "Pink Bat"? I can't remember right now.) from the PotRE vinyl, right? Those would be the first digital issues of that stuff as far as I know.  Are the other odd singles just on Amrep, or are those Amrep/Ipecac? Maybe that's the content of the comp disc? Maybe there's more? I think it might behoove us to petition for a separate release of that disc.

The Fool

I'm guessing it will be more like the hardcover version of Neither Here Nor There and will be available thru Ipecac's store, or the Melvins store so it's available to people like me outside the States.

...Hope I can get one somehow!
Like most here, I bought the Ipecac releases as they came out so i hope there's more than just the cd with 'stuff that hasn't really seen the light of day', like extra artwork or whatever to make it not seem like paying a bunch for one cd.

Anyway- it's all sounding good with all this news!!!  8)

The Fool

I doubt that the HAT 7" b-sides and stuff that's technically been released already will be on the compilation, but who knows?!?

Presumably, it'll be on the box set somewhere though right? does that maybe mean TWO discs that aren't just the albums? maybe they'd be on th H.A.T. disc?

Oh man, I didn't even think about that! With Buzzo & Patton's writing skills coming together with 3 drummers (4 if you want to include Bozzio) There's no telling what kind of mayhem they could accomplish. I think a studio album would be better if they just left their previous songs alone and wrote some new songs, that way it would feel like Patton wasn't inserting himself into The Melvins and Fantomas wasn't getting too Melvins-like.

That would be legendary

black stallion

yep lombardo crover and bozzio or coady could be an amazing drum line up but mike patton is so boring singing and screaming with his 1500 vocal effects on the melvins songs..

just an  example ...listening to joan of arc in this live vid....do you really like when he screams ua ua...ua ua...in the middle of the song?expecially thinking to the original version?in my opinion  it's terrible....i really love fantomas and obviously every single note from the melvins ,but think that melvins+fantomas doesn't work...it's just an opinion.

my guess is something like 90-110 bucks, assuming that each album is on a separate disc, including the bonus discs, and that it doesn't come with anything else (like posters,t-shirts etc.)

glen

what if its the entire catalog in a box set and it costs $2500.00?

will you buy it mitrowski?

runk the punk

Does anyone remember how early  Senile Animal leaked?  Was it a few months or just weeks before the actual release?
Just wondering .

anaconda

It was out there a good 4-6 months in advance

runk the punk

Buzz should leak a decoy Nude With Boots to the internet just to fuck with the downloaders!  Have Coady playing the kazoo and Jared freestyle rapping, Buzz playing the violin, Dale reciting poetry about rainbows and unicorns...
