That's right! The Melvins celebrate their Silver Anniversary this year! Lots of fun and surprises are coming! To kick off the festivities, the boys are doing some select shows performing the Houdini record in it's entirety. One Mr. Trevor Dunn will be handling the bass duties while the B.B. boys are touring their new album "Mind The Drift". Also along for the ride is original drummer Mike Dillard. The boys will play songs from the Mangled Demos record with Dale Crover playing the role of Matt Lukin! Check the show section for dates.

awesome, thanks for the news!
i'll possibly make it to one of those.
I may book it to the NYC show but I'd be going alone I think. :( Unless someone here wanted to be my buddy! I've never been to NY.
Anyone know if the NYC show is all ages or not? Webster Hall's website has no information on it.
A friend of mine recently asked me to take a trip to New York and i think this will seal the deal.
Looking at the venue and the shows it does have scheduled I seriously doubt that it's going to be an all ages show. My guess is 18+.
Some of their shows have....dress codes.
cool
and noticed today flights to new york at the moment arnt that expensive
im goin to think about doin this
hmm me in america
Wait, 18+? I was under the impression it would be 21+ since it's in the states.
Nah, that aint always how it is. I am not sure what the point of 18+ shows is, just to keep the kids out I guess, but that venue has plenty of 18+ shows.
does that mean no booze?
i dont do gigs if they dont do booze
thats crazy
no sir I go to all ages shows all the time and they still serve all the booze you can drink. it's just if you aren't 21 you get x's on your hands.

More like a permanent marker. Usually they put x's if you're under 21 and a stamp if you're over. And the damn stamp always rubs off all over my shirt.
yeah and it doesn't work anyway. i've had a million guys offer to buy me booze.
is that the entire tour list? :x
im so pleased with this news if its 18+. It doesnt make sense, but still. Here in Alberta the legal age for everything is 18 - it's one of the few upsides to this shitty province.
hearing the entirety of Houdini would be so great.

No. It's not. I know there's more to be added. But I wouldn't count on Dillard being available for the whole tour this summer.

I think Webster Hall gives out wrist bands for alcohol.
I live in NY, the shows around here are almost always 18+. I'll definitely be at the Webster Hall show.
Cant wait to hear Joan of Arc.

I would love to see Matt Lukin on bass for the Mangled Demos stuff. He is just hanging in West Seattle being a carpenter. Bury the hatchet guys!!!!
Dale is a better bass player.

I'll be there as well, so it seems. I can't wait to hear Hooch and Night Goat!
It would be great if theMelvins ever played the Metro in Chicago again
that is where they shine the best
They were really good and the sound was above par at Reggie's last time
but the double door is one of the worst clubs to play at.
the sound is horrible and the bar can usually drowned out the music
doesn't help that the bar is twice as big as the stage and ten feet away from the stage as well
the only place I can think that is worse for sound here in Chicago is the Aragon Ballroom
when I saw the Melvins with Primus there in '94, they got boo'd
but the Aragon is a big azz echo chamber
really excited about the WH show...but a little concerned about BB not being on this. I've gotten so used to the power of the Dale/Coady assault it's going to be hard to go back...
still, I wouldn't miss it for anything...and knowing for sure Joan of Arc is on the setlist is heaven for me.
i think its kind of interesting how the ol' melvins are kinda two live bands in one at this point. you either get the buisness boys, or the fury of dunn himself.
either way, its a win win situation.

19? Ticketmaster says the show is 18+. Not that it really matters, I've only been carded once when I arrived at a show early. If a show is sold out, they want to get everyone inside as fast as possible. They're not going to waste time checking IDs.

Haven't the slightest idea.
A lot of time a dress code means no gang colors.
the melvins have always had a hard time with gangs. take for instance, the xbassist gang, the walsby gang, the groping bbs groupie gang, the "i travel to lots of places to see the melvins and yeah I got a lot of time on my hands" gang(mortal enemy to the walsbies), and glen.
i don't think most of those gangs have gang colors. :-k glen is usually wearing a hospital gown.
This thread is creepy.
let's all rent a room together and dogpile before the concert :)
just got creepier....
joking 8)
but in all seriousness the NYC show is now on the Webster Hall site. 18+, 6:30 doors, tickets friday@noon.
My concern about going to this is getting a room. And I imagine the taxi ride from JFK to the venue is gonna be spendy.....
Yeah... the very cheapest room I saw was about $140. Manhattan doesn't come cheap.
I'm taking a train in, if I go (I'm pretty sure). I'm walking everywhere. :P

The most sensible way to get to the city from JFK is to take the monorail to the LIRR. Should cost >$15.
If anyone wants to put me up in their place, I'd buy em a ticket and some beer or something.
do you guys think T.Dunn is gonna be the next official bass player?
official or not, it would be cool if they did an album with dunn.
yeah, and with Crover only on drum
I think the 4 piece lineup is here for a long time to come.
At least 5 or 6 albums. Buzz compared getting Warren
and Coady to starting all over from scratch. They won't
record only a couple albums and then get rid of them.
i can see the current line up lasting for quite some time. even so, the concept of them doing a side album with dunn on bass sounds phenomenal. two incarnations of one of my favorite bands.... awesome.

It was posted in a blog on the official Myspace of Green River, this is it:
Green River is going to be teaming up with The Melvins for at least two shows for the Melvins' 25th anniversary. Two dates set for May 22nd and 23rd, with a possible third show. Locations have yet to be set. Further details will be forthcoming.

That was nothing more than a stupid joke.
What would be truly awesome would be for another Deep Six band to show up for the Melvins 25th gigs.
I'd like to see the U-men get together. Hopefully Tom Price can still play guitar with the onset of Parkinson's.
What about Soundgarden? Kim Thayal's a big Melvins fan. Perfect time for a reunion.
Skin Yard is out with the death of Ben McMillan.
Malfunksun is out with the death of Andrew Wood.
Is this still about the Melvins are about long forgotten band who happened to be part of the same 'scene' 25 years ago? Fuck that, this should be a Melvins party.
At the 20th Anniversary shows Mudhoney showed up. I don't think Buzz would mind some old friends sharing the bill to help the Melvins celebrate.
Buzz tried to tackle Mark Arm after the 20th Anniversary show in Olympia. He failed.

There's going to be some violence when Buzz hears the comments Mark Arm made about Leech and the Melvins.
That was my first thought. Mark Arm's a dickhead.
?
That was nothing more than a stupid joke.

:?
That's what I said, it's a harmless joke.
It seemed like he took it a little far for a joke, getting all those morons in the audience riled up. Idk.

Ehm, calling themselves 'the willie dixon of grunge', 'taking the power of sub pop + pj and crush those bastards', sounds like a joke to me, it's not like the Melvins 'zepped up' that tune or anything, no knows about the damn song besides us GPT geeks, so to me it seems he's just messing around with kids who don't know their history (read: haven't read the liner notes of the GPT reissue)...
What does 'idk' stand for?
I have no idea.

I was thinking the same thing! U-Men is probably the most realistic one, and would be unreal to see! I couldnt see a Soundgarden reunion unless it was for big money. As for Skin Yard I'm still choked about Ben McMillan's death.
About the Green River Leech comment.. Mark Arm seems like he rarely takes himself seriously. Everyone that knew what was going on chuckled at that comment, and when he mentioned the Melvins i think there was more applause and cheering than Green River ever got from their performance.

It's all fun and games until Buzz's feelings get hurt! :x
Buzz is a brawler, and Coady has a black belt in Kung Fu. Mark Arm has been jealous of the melvins success for too long..it's a powder keg, sure to explode!
Mark's just pissed from all the millions the Melvins made off of that song ;)
Can't we go at a few songs on the radio without hearing it again?
I mean really it's getting close to Stairway to Heaven or Hotel California status.
Rumor that was whispered my way is May 22 and 23rd at the Showbox in Seattle. May 24 in Portland, unsure of the venue.
I'll be there!
Probably just for the Seattle shows, but who knows? Coincidentally I already have the time off from work, and airfare doesn't seem to expensive.

The last time I was in Seattle for a show I stayed at the Green Tortoise. Last I heard you had to have a foreign passport to stay there. What other hotels are nearby, and reasonably priced? Anyone interested in sharing a room (in a strictly platonic way)?
anybody want to share a room with me? in a totally non-platonic way?

I think the girlfriend and I are staying with some of her friends, but this is where I've always stayed Mich....Small rooms, but really....you just need a place to sleep anyway. I liked it there. It's about as cheap and close as you can get.

They haven't had a tour like this. They played some dates here n there. This isn't a regular tour. With BB out supporting their new record, Buzz and Dale have to do something else. So in their own recognition of 25 years, they bring back their old drummer for some mostly east and west coast shows and play all of Houdini. I'm sure all will return to normal next year.
so is mike dillard going to drum for the houdini part as well?

I know, I got mine today and thought the exact same thing. I don't think I've ever paid that much to see the Melvins. Worth every penny, but when you know it's all just going to Ticketmaster and not even the club, let alone the band, it kind of stings. At least BB on Sunday night will be a tad less expensive and probably ever bit as good. Can't wait to see Toshi make some noise again. Hope the new record's as noisy as he is live.
Still wondering about the timeing of the BB and Melvins NW dates.
I just got my tickets for the Portland show through tickets west and it cost me $57.50 for two tickets which are $20 a piece.
Not as bad as ticketmaster and I suppose I am the one deciding to use the online retailer instead of heading to the venue to pick them up but it always feels like a rip off anyway.
F Ticketmaster. I'm going to the Showbox on Monday at lunch and getting them at the box office.

Just double-checked, Mon-Fri 11am-6pm CASH ONLY.

If I remember the area correctly.. parking is going to be a bitch... does showbox have a parking lot or am I going to have to park my car in some garage?

There's a small parking lot right next door. You need to get there very early though.
It's right in the middle of touristville, there are a lot of garages and pay lots around. Just make sure you double-check when they close (the garages).
The closest parking garage for the Showbox shows is probably up on 2nd ave which is just a short walk around the corner. The address is 1400 2nd Ave, Seattle, WA 98101 (Ampco System Parking). I believe their open until 3-4am but don't recall the rates for a weekend. Hopefully this helps somebody. :P The Green Room opens @5pm for drinks as I recommend getting there early. The merch table is usually full if you get there just before the show starts. Also I believe the doors open @ 7pm,don't quote me on that though. Hope to see as much of you there! I'm going on the 22nd!
Hah, box office is not selling till Monday. Useless Seattle trip.
hopefully they won't sell out. i can't get tickets until the 15th. stupid pay periods at work. i'll be at both Seattle dates though if they don't. can't wait.

I just paid about $74 for a couple tickets to the Friday show at the Showbox, ridiculous surcharges. I'll get the Saturday show tickets at an outlet tomorrow, should be a bout $20 cheaper.

I havent seen the melvins that many times... but the three shows I have gone to I have bought tickets at the door.
they tend to sell out the night of the show around these parts.
i think they usually sell out chicago.

But don't forget I held down the yak to come back and watch the Melvins do their thing. Then we tried for an hour to hail a fucking cab. Then we gave up n walked it to Danny's empty house. I think I owe him 500 beers for that.

Does anyone here go to the Green Room ahead of the show, or are drinks outrageously priced there as well? I've heard the Alibi Room down the street is the place to go before a showbox show..... Anyway, I'll be at both shows!!!

I applaud your ability to find these old threads!
I have a feeling we're not gonna see anything more than 1983 and Houdini. If they were gonna throw some other stuff in the setlist it'd probably be in the earlier set since Houdini stands alone. But since Dillard will be on drums and Dale on bass for that set I'm guessing they'll just stick to the 1983 stuff. Same for the Houdini set... I doubt Trevor's learning stuff other than Houdini, but who knows.
That 20th Anniversary thread takes me back. That was one of the best Melvins gigs I've ever been to. The only one better may have been Hell's Kitchen on the HAT tour. That place is so tiny it was incredible. And Cody was there too with Dead Low Tide.
Does anyone have the 20th Anniversary show that could post it again? I never got that recording. I remember Youth Of America being incredible at that show.

I'm sort of in your same boat, ES, since I'll be coming in from out of town too. If anyone has the goods I will be eternally grateful and pay you in cash or drinks, or both.
Also, who's meeting up with me for pre-show drinks at the Green Room?
couldnt you bring some? you dont live across the border so there shouldnt be anything stopping you unless your flying in.
I may come by the green room for pre show drinks but Ill be with two other guys who are 20. (goddamn american laws)
Im not going to feel like asking random people on the street if they got any, so im hoping my fellow melvins fans can hook it up.
hey d.c. the soda shoppe sounds good. ill be your best friend and buy booze for you if you can find me some green in seattle.
I dunno where to get green. Sorry guys! A shirley sounds nice sweet but I probably wouldnt risk getting kicked out just for that. And i dunno where theres a soda place, I just figured thats where you guys would expect me to go since im a toddler and all.

I may not be there for any pre activities. I'm meeting a friend who may be taking me to meet Lukin if he's around. I'll know more closer to show time. I'll also be around all day Saturday, but I'm taking my gf to do some stuff. It's her b-day weekend.
Quotesince im coming in through the border for this show, I wanted to know if anybody is willing to provide me with some :toke: in exchange for some cash?
ahh i'm so glad i'm taking the train. :toke: :toke:

?
Im showing that Harvey Milk is playing four days later Sunday 5/24 at the Red 7
So here's a little evidence it may be more than Houdini... From Trevor Dunn's myspace tour page:
"Crover & Osborne + Melvins 1983 (feat. Mike Dillard-drums) + Mevlins play Houdini/Eggnog/Lysol type stuff with Dunn"
Who are these Mevlins anyhow?
[-o< lysol please!
so its gonna be like a melvins 1983 opening act followed by melvins with trevor dunne playing houdini lysol and eggnog shit?
cant complain with that, no sir.

Don't forget Green River between Melvins 83 and Melvins.

ill be able to hook some people up...pm me and well set somthin up
Word is that these will be the "seamless" shows like Melvins and BB did on the 06 tour. There will be a transition song after Melvins83 where Dunn comes out and Dillard leaves. With a short encore after Houdini. There is no other bands scheduled except for the two Seattle shows.
 An encore?!
