I will next year. I'm coming to see you and Glen. And Jozz. But I look forward to meeting the mighty Armo. And then giving the midwest an earful of NW culture.
Two things.
I hear that group Weedeater is going to play and I'll be in the ATL show. But, why? Why the fuck is Melvins not headlining all the way? Is Down that stupid? 25 years strong for fuck sake. So what if Phil is the lead singer? I never think this is right to see a better more experienced band open for another. It's like when I saw Napalm Death opening for fucking Devildriver or Type O Negative open for pussies Hatebreed. need I say WTF.
Roughly one month and change to go before we hear about the first show.
By the way, have the melvins ever played Japan? I bet they're big in Japan.

25 years or no 25 years. its the way it is when anselmo is on the microphone.
so I've decided to go with plan B and take what I can for MELVINS 09. $40 stings. but I'll forget all about it when dale takes his first blow. ............and then remember it again when 45 minutes later he takes his last blow. #-o

I don't get how Nashville gets screwed over so frequently when it comes to shows. I have a buddy that lives down there and he said about the only shows that come to town on a frequent basis are Kid Rock, Green Day, Nickelback, and Goatwhore  You'd think Nashville would be a regular stop for most bands.
I did happen to see Parliament down there when I was on vacation quite a few years ago, so that was cool..

Tom Waits............for no one!!!
You can buy a premium ticket for $125.
Back stage, picture with Down, selection of one item from merch table. $5 gift certificate to Down's on-line store.
I did not make this selection but just sayin'
I'll be at the House of Blues on August 16th!!!! I feel very lucky for the fact that I actually LIKE BOTH BANDS. (well.... I love the Melvins). Don't mind that Down gets to headline but am hoping that the Melvins get at least an hour of stage time. On another note, I've been away for a little while, what's up with this Juan guy. Is he for real?

That's awesome! Must be filling in some dead time.
Wish there was a headlining show on the 10th in Oly or Tacoma. Seems like it'd be logical if they're hitting Eugene on the 9th and Seattle on the 11th. Still on the fence whether to buy a ticket to the Showbox so DOH! Not usually worth the price for the venue, and especially w/ a bunch of Anselmo knuckleheads.
The way I see it it will be worth the experience. You know Buzz will be talking about this tour for years to come.
I wouldn't miss it for the world.
I will be in Eugene. Wonder what the headlining set list will look like. There must be some new material waiting to sneak out :o

Yeah and it's gonna be produced by Buzz's old pal Phil Anselmo and released on Anselmo's House Core records. It's gonna follow the pattern of Houdini with Anselmo taking over from Cobain. Buzz is in this months Guitar World showing off his brand new confederate flag guitar and he's gonna be communicating alot more with the audience this time round using phrases like Fuckin A, hell yeah and especially smoke weed! The mumus will be replaced by filthy combat shorts, and venom t shirts that have been through the wash fifty thousand times. Also Buzz is getting inked. The immortal words Buzz Core will be tattooed on his knuckles shortly. Mackie will no longer be doing album artwork unless it contains snakes, pentagrams, whiskey bottles, confederate flags and skulls, lots of skulls.

If I lived on the west coast, I wouldn't bother with a Melvins opening-for-anybody set either. But here in western NY, you take what you can get, and it's mandatory to see the Melvins any chance you can.

Is it confirmed it will be the 4 piece melvins/BB or will it be a trio this go-round? That will be the deciding factor if I see this show or not.
im pretty sure its the 4 piece bb/melvins. coady's twitter was talking about practice with the melvins.

the last few times I have seen the melvins it has been with BB. Nowadays i would rather see them as a trio with DSS or Trevor. Not like I have anything against the last 2 albums, I would rather hear them play older material. Anyways, tix here for the show are $35.00 and that is a bit steep for me anyway. Besides, there are a few other cheaper shows that are on my radar

hey my brim is curved, and i have a snake tattoo, not a dragon one. and sorry i just don't feel comfortable unless my pants are baggy enough to cover my entire shoes.
Down should be opening for the Melvins, ya pimps and hos.

So I'm lucky enough to have the Melvins headlining in my city, pretty weird as you'd expect Down (FEATURING PHIL ANSELMO OF PANTERA in huge letters) to be the biggest draw in Oklahoma, where Pantera is pretty much considered the height of metal. Why would they headline in Oklahoma where the last Melvins show only drew in <100 people? All the event calendars I've seen even have "MELVINS" with all the support acts "TBA." I'm hoping BB will play a set, at the very least.
I wonder if Hot Sauce will open? That could likely cause a riot.

So is Weedeater confirmed to be playing all the shows? Down and Weedeater were originally scheduled for a few days before the Melvins show, that was canceled and now Down is playing with Melvins and Weedeater is playing the day after at another club.
I'm wondering if I'll be able to see Weedeater two nights in a row.

WHOAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Something's up with Weedeater on this tour. Just doing my regular check of Pollstar.com for dates in and around Charleston, SC.
Lo and behold: Weedeater is playing 09/04 at The Dive in Goose Creek (my hometown actually)
Which is spectacular! But Down and Melvins are playing in Myrtle Beach that same night. I looked at the rest of Weedeater's dates and it seems they're dropping in and out this tour, doing headlining shows in between.
yeah they're playing here with zoroaster and a couple others.
Hmmm..... checked Weedeater's MySpace and I'm not seeing any other bands as of yet.... Zoroaster has a big gap in their schedule though...
REGARDLESS!
I'm seeing Weedeater in Goose Creek over Down/Melvins in Myrtle Beach. If you guys only knew what this town was like... that just has a beautiful ring to it...

I did my part.
on a job in detroit. a semi truck shows up with a delivery of materials. truck driver jumps out and I notice he has a DOWN hat on. I say "hey.. I'm going to see them in about a month with the MELVINS. he says "yeah, me too. I did not know that the MELVINS were opening. I have heard of them but not heard them." I say "I have heard of DOWN but not heard much. only a song or two." he then proceeds to return to his semi-cab and come back with a cd in his hand. its the new DOWN. he hands it to me and says "you can keep it. then you'll have heard some of their shit before the show." I then return to my truck and come back with NUDE WITH BOOTS. I hand it to him and tell him he can keep it. then he will have heard some MELVINS before the show. we thank each other. I feel pretty good about the whole exchange knowing I have another copy of NWB.
all has gone pretty well. then I listen to the DOWN disc on the drive home.

The Cd has nice artwork at least so you could decorate your fridge. You got shafted though, it wasn't a fair exchange at all. I'd recommend Down I and II instead but I doubt you could fall in love with them. Wait until you're in Ireland sometime and you can have mine. I was obsessed with Down Nola as a teenager when it came out but now I just can't force myself to listen to it. All this sweet home alabama shit with distortion is getting a little old.

Well all I know is that there's this guy named Hank that plays bass. He's pretty good friends with both the Melvins and the guys in Down. And he isn't playing his first show in Europe until August 21st........... there seems to be two legs of this Down tour. The ORIGINAL tour earlier this year was supposed to be Down, Hank III, Weedeater.............

Smiling Cobra and Mr DNA are new additions to the set list. I don't believe they've played With Teeth as a 4 piece yet either.
They also played POTRE and Bloated Pope as a four piece in Eugene, but I'm not sure that's going to be part of the Down tour setlist. I'm hoping they'll throw it in.

I will, once I can figure out how to transfer .vob to mpeg. Every fucking program I try won't do it. For PC or Mac. I'm getting frustrated as hell. I used to be able to do it, although it was slow and buggy, on my laptop.....Now it won't work there either......Give me time, I'll get it figgered out....maybe.
Though I am open to suggestions. PM me if you have some ideas/answers?

A program called 'SUPER' used to work well, although I don't know if it can be used on a mac. You're using a mac now, correct? What video editing program do you have?
I can use either pc or mac......I have Final Cut Express for editing, but it wants an mpeg to edit, not .vob
I have Roxio EMC 9 for the pc
http://www.jakeludington.com/camcorder/20070430_rename_vob_to_mpeg_or_mpg.html
I tried it on a .VOB file and the resulting .MPEG played fine on vlc. No conversion needed.. The important bit is unchecking the box next to Hide extensions for known file types in folder options. Hope this works for you..

So we've all read a lot about how the Melvins fans have responded to Down, and a ton more about the Down fans in general...but how have the Down fans been receiving the Melvins? Has the response been generally positive? I'm guessing by the non-mentions here that they've not been outwardly hostile toward the band?

yeah, you know how that is. there are 2 kinds of down fans. the kind that fears and must destroy everything different than down. and the kind that claims to like "strange" bands like MELVINS just for the sake of being a little more in-the-know than the doofus next to them at the down show.
my guess is there are more of the later.
oh.. and the later is the kind of guy that stands in line outside a down show and tells a story about this one time they saw MELVINS and they did nothing but play feedback for 45 minutes. it was "awesome". but this is kinda like woodstock. if they remember it it never happened.

Where's Beto? Flamming Lips!
https://www.fox5vegas.com/2024/10/16/sick-new-world-las-vegas-festival-announces-2025-lineup/
Tomahawk, Melvins, Down, Napalm Death
Ticket prices are kind of outragous!
Scowl is in the line up also.
That's too much exertion for me these days.
One of these names does not belong...Actually WHAT show was it, when Superjoint Ritual was supposed to open for..and they got stopped at the border and that was the end of that.
....But their Stickers made it across.
I think that might have been the Tool/Tomahawk show in 2002-ish?
The SOAD boys have broad tastes. I'm actually surprised it has been so narrowly metal focused in prior years. It might be cool seeing the Lips there. Probably one of the only times the audience isn't there to hear "Do You Realize?" and instead want to hear a big psychedelic feedback fest like their late 80s/early 90s or Embryonic stuff
Saw SOAD, so many years ago, I can't even remember who they played with....All I remember is the guitarist was one of THE brownest sounding guitarists Live I've ever heard.
The guitarist from SOAD Daron and the singer Serj can't agree on how to write together and split the publishing adequately so that's why even though they still play live they haven't released a new album in 20 years.
That festival is owned by SOAD which is why they headlined the first two years but next year instead of SOAD playing at it two of their side bands are, Daron's reactivated Scars on Broadway and Shavo the bass player in SOAD has just started a new band Seven Hours After Violet.
I'm not a SOAD fan at all I just read about all sorts of heavy bands on Blabbermouth so I'm on top of all the SOAD drama between Daron and Serj and the side bands. I think Serj has just released a new solo EP too. The drummer in SOAD John, who is a right-wing guy funnily enough and used to be in Scars on Broadway, owns a comic book store and has just started releasing his own comics too.
I saw SOAD at Ozzfest 99. No one really knew who they were yet. Pretty sure they played first on the main stage. They were pretty good.
I only saw them one other time about 6 months later on the Snocore tour. Somehow they were already big enough that Bungle went on first. There was another band after Bungle and once they were done, I realized I was standing next to Patton in the crowd. I nerded out on him about Fantomas, Melvins on Ipecac, the rumors I heard about Venomous Concept, and whatever he was doing with Merzbow. He was actually very conversational, but when he could tell SOAD were about to start, he politely apologized and said he was gonna go watch them from the side of the stage.
Quote from: GiveMe45 on October 18, 2024, 09:16:58 PMHe was actually very conversational, but when he could tell SOAD were about to start, he politely apologized and said he was gonna go watch them from the side of the stage.
That's interesting because a lot of Bungle fans disliked SOAD because they saw Serj and his vocal style as a ripoff of Patton and the music is similar in parts too. I think Serj and SOAD have been open about being Bungle fans, I know the Korn guys were hardcore Bungle fans as were Slipknot, Mushroomhead etc.
A lot of SOAD fans used to want Serj and Patton to work together and they finally did in 2008 when they both did vocals on the same song on a soundtrack, I think it was the Russell Crowe movie Body of Lies.
