I gather from an interview with Trevor Dunn on theholyfilament.cl that the Melvins Lite shows from July were just practice for a full tour. But I used Google Translate and you can only make assumptions about what you're reading when using it. Here's what I got:
In July of this year I was playing with the Melvins , in what they called their education " Lite ". To this he added that preparing for a U.S. tour with the Melvins : 50 states in 50 days, starting and ending in Hawaii, Alaska. "It's going to be crazy. Let's take a plane to Alaska and then we will go the rest of the States in a van, one per day without stopping ..!".
For those of you that can read the original text in Spanish, here's the link (4th paragraph):
http://www.theholyfilament.cl/articulos/el-perro-mundo-de-trevor-dunn-en-chile/ (http://www.theholyfilament.cl/articulos/el-perro-mundo-de-trevor-dunn-en-chile/)
Does this include America's 51st state aka America's hat aka Canada?
If true, bye bye money. :( :D

yeah if this is true i'll be driving down somewhere to see em
Mellisa's translation seems pretty sound to me.
start making your plans.
I think the 51st state is Puerto Rico, no?
Anyway, this is fantastic! I mean, who needs money...or a job...or a life.....
So, I wonder... does this mean Trevor Dunn will be playing as a Melvin, or just touring with them as an opening act? Perhaps both? Maybe neither! Ha! OUTSTANDING!
It's a US territory, like Guam, or the Virgin Islands.

You should've gone, it was pretty awesome. Melvins '83, Melvins Lite (no Trevor Dunn though), then Melvins with Trevor playing Houdini. I think the residency shows were better but the Melvins 25 show was still one of the best ever.
If Melvins are going to play Anchorage I will be there. Jules, you in?
If this is true, I hope they come to Orlando so I don't have to travel very far. It is hard being a Melvins fan when times are tough.

BTW, any further word on whether or not this tour is really going to happen?
I spoke with Trevor last week. He said that the tour will happen in Fall 2012. There will actually be 51 stops in 51 days as they are also playing Washington D.C. Everything will be done via car with the exception of Hawaii and Alaska.
This will rule.

Apologies for turning this into a zombie thread, and for if this has been discussed elsewhere (yes, I used the search function).
Last night Buzz told me that this tour is happening in the fall. The Texas show will be in Austin. He also added "That will be the only show in Texas. 'Cause each state is only getting one show." Makes sense.
Well since Rochester gets a show as part of the 1st leg Canada tour, I'm guessing Buffalo won't be part of the later 51 date tour, probably will be NYC or Albany. Hopefully the OH show is Cleveland, at the Grog.

i think lupos is a little big a room for this sort of tour, the met is probably more realistic.
maine is sort of a toss up, im half expecting the asylum since they played there in 99 (pretty sure this was the last time they have been here), but could be port city music hall, space gallery, or maybe even empire. i just hope they arent reduced to playing somewhere outside of portland, like club texas.
NH probably wallys pub in hampton beach. VT i dont think there really is anywhere else to play other than higher ground, unless they do some sort of tiny DIY space. CT i have no idea. MA will probably be the paradise like always.

I doubt they will play either the empire or space. Port City is my guess, since it wasn't here the last time, when they played the Asylum. Didn't they also play at Zootz back in the day?
Hampton Beach seems the logical choice for NH. I am hoping to hit all the NE shows.

I don't wanna skip buying tickets for the Brooklyn NY show if there isn't a show in CT. (Or if it is at a shitty venue like the Webster with horrible sound!) You'll see them here first! And on Melvins' Facebook page. They will play in every state and DC, too.
so whats with this DC thing? do they not consider it a state or what?

No it just a district, however when reporting election results it gets its own column. So I can see why they may add that to the tour.

Its funny, the Asylum show in Maine doesn't go on sale until Friday.
Never been to Pensacola, FL before. Now I have two reasons. 1: MELVINS!!!!! 2: My best friend just moved there so I can stay with him and have someone to go with
Is there a badge for the furthest distance travelled to see a band? Anyone else from Europe wanna come to Anchorage?
Furthermore, forgive my idiocy but is the LA gig at an actual cemetery or is that the (fantastic) name of a venue?
THE MELVINS SEEK GUINNESS WORLD RECORD FOR THE FASTEST TOUR OF THE UNITED STATES & D.C. BY A BAND WITH 51-DATE FALL TOUR
FREAK PUKE RELEASED TODAY
June 5, 2012, LOS ANGELES -- The Melvins will attempt to become the Guinness World Record holders for the first band to tour the full United States and D.C. in 51 days with a tour kicking off Sept. 5 in Anchorage, Alaska and wrapping up Oct. 25 in Honolulu, Hawaii.
"We figured it was time for us to do something REALLY crazy," said Osborne. "51 shows in 50 states plus 1 on D.C. and all in 51 days? Jeez! I wonder if we can do it?"
The tour, which will feature the Melvins Lite line-up of Buzz Osborne, Dale Crover and Trevor Dunn, also marks the first time in the band's near 30-year history that they will perform in Alaska, New Hampshire, Delaware and Hawaii.
"We had seen Trevor playing upright bass in a jazz setting and thought that we could utilize that for a recording project," explained Crover. "This is something different from the two drummer/big hair line-up, which we plan on continuing with as well."
Prior to the Fall, the Melvins have a full spate of appearances. The band perform two shows in conjunction with Subliminal Projects: June 8 at The Echoplex in Los Angeles and June 30 at TT Underground Gallery in New York. Buzz Osborne will be a guest on Fox News' "Red Eye with Greg Gutfeld" on June 28. Melvins Lite will also venture north for a three week trek of primarily Canadian tour dates that kicks off on July 1 (dates below).

Does anyone know when the Hawaii tickets go on sale? Got money burning in my pocket and also need a vacation, so why not go on vacation to see the Melvins? Checked flights and lodging and it comes out to about 1700 bucks for 5 days.

Last band that I can think of that did this was George Thorogood in 1981 of course he was 31 when he did it...

upon closer inspection, this tour was 51 in 50, as he did 2 shows in one day, DC and maryland: http://thorogoodconcerts.com/5050tour.html (http://thorogoodconcerts.com/5050tour.html)
melvins are gonna have to add some instore performances or second sets (which may not be hard judging from the size of some of these places) to actually set the record

The Club at water Street is a pretty good venue, I saw them play there last time they were in town. Make sure you stop at Nick Tahous and get a Garbage Plate, its what were known for here in the ROC. Im glad I don't have to drive to Buffalo again to see them, it seems they always play there.
Last two area stops were back to back Rochester/Buffalo - '08 & '09. '09 Buffalo was awesome because they headlined with two sets without Down. I kind of figured NYC would be the only NY show this fall.
I've been going to Rochester shows since the early '90s and I don't think I've ever been to Nick Tahou's, I don't even know exactly where it is. There are a few places in Batavia that have knock-off versions of the garbage plate, hit or miss. Dinosaur BBQ is the place to hit in Rochester for bad-ass food.
Looks like I'm out for the PA show. Scranton wouldn't be too bad a drive, but now Allentown - too far. Will settle for Cleveland Grog Shop where I last saw Melvins in 2010.
The current guinness record for a consecutive tour is 50 states in 50 days; won't the melvins have to do 50 in 49 days to beat it?

Here's other records they could possibly beat:
MOST CONCERTS OF THE SAME ARTIST ATTENDED IN ONE YEAR
*cough* Idle or Jules
LOUDEST SCREAM BY A CROWD (INDOORS)
LOUDEST APPLAUSE
FASTEST TO PLAY A CONCERT IN EACH OF THE 50 US STATES
The fastest time to play a concert in each of the 50 states of the USA is 50 days by Adam Brodsky (USA) between 3 August and 21 September 2003. Brodsky went on play an extra date on 22 September in Washington DC.
I think Mike Watt actually owns the record for most relentless tours. He usually does like 2 months straight with no more than 2 nights off.

I can imagine this tour is going to be pretty tiring on the soul. No days off and each day driving, setting up gear, sound checking, playing the gig and finishing off the day dismantling the gear and then off to bed. At least they don't have a great deal of gear to lug around being that it's the LITE incarnation.

Looks like I'm out for the PA show. Scranton wouldn't be too bad a drive, but now Allentown - too far. Will settle for Cleveland Grog Shop where I last saw Melvins in 2010.
Indeed, The Dino is always killer. Nicks is on Main near broad, and they're the original plate, its fantastic. I actually went to the headliner show in buff and skipped roc in 09 because Buffalo's venue was so much better.

This song kicks ass live-no joke. I saw one of their Bullhead/Stoner Witch shows last year and it was awesome how they opened the Stoner Witch set with lividity. It's really cool live and I hope they play it again.

Last two area stops were back to back Rochester/Buffalo - '08 & '09. '09 Buffalo was awesome because they headlined with two sets without Down. I kind of figured NYC would be the only NY show this fall.

I was at the Buffalo show in 2009 too. Do you remember in the intro to Anaconda when Buzz was talking about a cop they had to deal with across the street? The cop was being a deuce and Buzz had to explain they were there to play a show. He said something about the cops in Buffalo "taking it in the ass". He also mocked Down for playing in Rochester but not in Buffalo. People in the audience were like "fuck Rochester!" Buzz said he didn't understand what that was all about since he's not from the area.

Anyone gonna go to the CT show? I'm glad it's at Toads Place they have the best live sound there. I called my friend who likes them (but not like I do) and he was like..."Holy shit dude you are obsessing over buying tix Friday when the show is in October? You are not right....but I completely understand and approve. Get me a ticket too" lol
without a doubt.

Hey now Hot Pants and KDools...I'm from Manchester CT!!! You should say hi at the show, Ill be the guy drooling at the merch booth! I was so glad they are playing Toad's instead of The Webster. The Webster sounds like shit.
yeah The Webster is terrible.
but i saw the recent Mastodon tour at this place called The Dome at Oakdale. now that place is killer. the sound was amazing and the venue itself was fantastic. i wish Melvins were playing there instead. but Toads is a decent venue. ive been there for crapload of shows.
are you going with any friends? none of my friends are big Melvins fans at all, but i may drag one or two of them along anyways.

My friend Keith and I have liked the Melvins for decades, since we were kids. He asked to bring his GF who is cool but I don't know if she will like the Melvins. I already warned him, "Dude you can totally bring her BUT you will not ruin this for me. The Melvins are making history here man, there will be no fighting, no complaining, no waiting in the car and if there are questions they will be answered at the end. Don't test me I WILL leave you both in New Haven"

Prediction for the Detroit Gig: Just saw DOWN is going to be in town the night before,
anddddd they have the next day off. Point of me saying this: I'm calling it now.... Bower is going to show up at the gig :D
I'm not saying he's going to play with them again - but I do have got a gut feeling that he's going to show up in the crowd. Bower's a Melvins super-fan. I had a chat with him after seeing EYEHATEGOD a few years back and Melvins is all we talked about. He got the hugest smile on his face when I mentioned it, too. When he was touring with them (Down with the Melvins - has a nice ring to it, does it not?) dude updated his fb status every 2 minutes about how he was floored to be in their presence and how he was having the time of his life. You'd think you were reading something from all ill-crazed groupie. He'd be like, "Look at this picture of me! I'm sitting at Dale Crover's drumset!!"
:D

so Dan, did you get your tickets for the New Haven show already?
i just checked and it looks like the only option to buy online is for "print at home" tickets, which makes me nervous. they are cheaper, but of course i still get to pay an extra $5 CONVENIECE FEE.
looks like there are no other options besides print at home... the fuck? this wasnt even an option a week or so ago.
Yeah I felt the same way in 07. The printed tickets worked fine though.
07 at Toad's you mean? thanks for the reassurance, still feel nervous about it though. having visions of getting to the door on the night of and being given shit about some piece of paper im trying to hand over.
you going to the Toad's show this year too moose?
Yeah Toad's. No I'm probably hitting Boston. New Haven's a long haul.

Im such a loser I bought them at midnight the day they went on sale....probably just conditioning from that Amp Rep store!
Ive printed at home many times for many venues including the oakdale... just print good quality. The barcode just needs to be able to be scanned. If they give you any trouble at the door just tell them you know Dan Halen. It won't help you out at all as far as getting into the concert but it will be very funny!
In all honesty I wouldn't sweat it...it's gonna be a great show. I don't care about the fee....$20 out the door to see Melvins Lite? I will pay that price all day long sir! Try to find me at the show and say hi!
thanks moose.
lol Dan. ill tell them that even if they dont ask.
aw fuck, i was just going to say i was probably going to go early and have a few drinks at Rudy's, but i just looked it up (for some reason) and it looks like they were forced to move by the owner of the building. that sucks. that place was a landmark. fucking Chinese fast food joint (run by the building owner) wanted to expand. cocksucker.
anyways yeah. we will hook up.
ok thanks guys. im going to print my ticket and then bug some friends to fucking come to the show too.
ps Dan. planning on hitting any of the other shows in the area as well? i was thinking possibly Providence, and kind of a long shot, but maybe NY or NJ show.
I should but will probably just be lazy and goto the New Haven show. I have a $200 budget and since the ticket was $20 that only leaves me $180 to spend at the merch table that night...
Rudy's is good...I went there a few years back...then after went in some random bar all drunk and met John Spencer without even realizing who he was....his band Heavy Trash fucking rocked tho! At least I wasn't too drunk where I didn't buy a 45! Realized who it was the next day when I read the writing credits on the 45.
p.s. If my friend's girlfriend acts annoying you are gonna be my escape plan! haha

Yeah, the whole wristband thing is a bunch of garbage. What ends up happening is you get the wristband for $75 and then wait outside the venue while they let the people buying tickets the night of the show enter until they decide there is room for the folks with wristbands. I bought the wristband the first year and decided to never do so again.

I didn't know that. You'd think it would work the other way around. I'd be pissed if I had a wristband and didn't get into a show.

Thats happened to me too many times with NXNE in Toronto , spen a bunch of money and miss so many bands, fucking stupid.
another thing is that its a lot cheaper to grab a ticket at the door last minute than order an advance one or try your scalping luck. :(
god damn it..its greasy.
Tweak Bird just posted 46 new concerts...
Looks like they'll be the opener on most of the dates.
Has this already been discussed?
No it hasn't and good for them! And us!
Just ordered tickets for the Madison show, sweet!
TWEAK BIRD will be supporting MELVINS LITE for much of the Eastern and Southern US leg.
all dates September 8 through October 22.
props to Blewis.

These three posters are going on the upcoming Melvins Lite tour in a month. The Beavis and Butthead parody and the "New Mutants" themed poster are all signed and numbered, one hundred copies were made of each of them. They will be ten dollars each.
The Miles Davis parody is multi colored and is printed on some heavy stock glossy paper. Fifty of these were made and they will be on sale for twenty five dollars each.
And there will also be copies of MANCHILD 6 as well as the usual homemade posters plus original art for sale.
And yes, the Melvins will have plenty of new cool stuff as well. It will be a merchandise wet dream or something.
See you all soon..

The "On The Corner" Is Amazing... And I love The New Mutants one...
-I wonder how many people will Remember New Mutants, Or have any idea what that reference is
Oh neat! Thanks for posting those, Rhyme!
So. Honolulu. I'm thinking I might sell a kidney and try to go. ( I said a kidney, not my kidney  )
In reality, it probably won't happen but goddammit I will try.
I just realized '51' ends on the eve of my big 3-0. That'd be a great way to ease the traumatic experience, no?
Yes? Yes. We shall see.....
I don't think anyone's mentioned this yet, but I just realized Big Biz is opening four days from Seattle to Missoula.

Also love how Trevor is Stewart in the Bevis & Butthead poster
Well, I won't be at the Idaho show, but I will be at the Grumpy's show! Ticket and flight have been paid for.
And Jules, we'll go see some shows on Sunday after all!
And Glen, Judy, Armo, whomever I've forgotten.............Grumpy's is only 12 hours away. I expect to see you there!
You're going to the Grumpy's gig? Rad, Hanzy! I wonder why they're doing a parking-lot show. Hmf.
Have you been there? It's pretty small (Smaller than Smalls - heh) but I didn't attend for a gig.
Just had a beer and played Spread Eagle Beagle on the Jukebox.
Showing up sounds ideal but it's unlikely that'll happen this time around.
Well, for one, going would mean missing The BIZ over here!!!!!

No, I have not ever been there. I've always wanted to go though. It just so happens that it works out that I can make it to this show. I'm really looking forward to it!
Going to the Louisville one and here is the unofficial flyer. Is there flyers for any of the other shows up yet besides Grumpy's?

Wednesday Sept. 5th at the Bear Tooth Theatrepub
Doors at 8pm | Opener Starts at 9pm | The Melvins
Yeah i was just looking at that on the website, but when melvins played in toronto in 2010 the ix said with special guests and there was no one, just wondering if it was announced who or if any band at all, i think an extra long melvins set to kick off the tour would be nice

Yeah, it's happened over here, too. To be honest, I'll be so disorientated from being between Canada and Russia, I won't care either way. You'll have to stop my mouth from opening wide every 10 minutes. Just push some more beer into it if it does.

they look fucking miserable. must've been a real shitty flight.
so hey, looks like some of the last few shows havent gotten any threads in the last few days. did anbody get to any of these recent dates?
I always thought we would get another Melvins Lite record at some point. As time has gone on i now think it'll probably not happen. We seem fixed with the Coady, Steven era for at least the foreseeable now. Crazy to think we've had three 1983 albums since Freak Puke.

Yeah recently Buzz was asked if there was recorded material that hasn't seen the light of day and he pretty much said no, that everything they record, they put out. However, I thought he had also said they had recorded another albums worth of material with Trevor maybe ten years ago, so who knows what that's about.

Yes that line caught my eye too. I also recall rumour from years ago that they recorded 50 songs with Trevor. I suppose the more likely situation is that they just didn't! Still with the band touring with Trevor's new band i suppose it won't be long until Buzz works with him again on something.

Or they just recorded fifty jazz improv jams lol.
He does seem to contradict himself there a bit. Maybe Trevor played on some songs that already came out but they didn't use his parts? Or there is a whole album still in the can that Buzz isn't counting in one of his responses.
Maybe some of the songs were pilfered out and used as King Dunn
Quote from: amazonAMAZON on May 14, 2025, 04:31:22 AMHe does seem to contradict himself there a bit.
In recent times both Buzz and Dale have said the same - that everything they record is put out. That there isn't songs sat around that haven't been released. But then last year there was a joint interview with Toshi and Buzz in which they specifically said they had quite a bit of unfinished material and ideas that need mixing. So take from that what you will really. I recall Toshi saying the very start of Pain Equals Funny was recorded at the time of Gift Of Sacrifice and then pulled out and reused for Tarantula Heart. So perhaps they do have some stuff that remains unused or is just in the ideas stage. It's probably common for most musicians.

I thought that too. It's certainly possible.
yeah, considering Buzz and Trevor recent collab, why not involving Dale and do some new Melvins Lite?
