and here is the following question:

i just bought a copy of stag on vinyl, and am somewhat concerned it is a bootleg; can anyone who owns the legitimate record tell me whether or not his or her copy is mastered at a seemingly strangely low volume level?

i don't own it, so sorry to excite you with a response - however, i am very interested to see if it is a bootleg.  i haven't heard of people taking the time to make bootlegged melvins vinyl but it would entertain me.  at your expense, of course...sorry.  no offense intended.

oh, little worry. i would be able to return it. it's probably not a boot, i imagine, but it is strange to me that after atlantic pressing wax for the two previous albums, neither of which are mastered or keyed low, they would do so with stag. but strange things happen all the time. perhaps an effect of turn-over at atlantic or the souring relationship between the band and the label or both. the cover does have the flower face rather than the skull/spiral eye face as on the cd, which i guess lends credence to the nascent theory of its legitimacy.

the quality of the STAG LP is not good...
why: for great sound at an LP the maximum lenght per sdide should be max. 24 minutes. at STAG each side is longer than 24 minutes, so that'S why the sound bad.
