This is starting to sound like a great comedy routine.  I'm really starting to look forward to seeing Down now just to see all the fans wishing the band was playing more music, while Phil mumbles about who knows what.  Good times.

I nominate Neil Hamburger as downs new singer.

Now that would be kickass.  He was the singer in Faxed Head, and that band rocks!

While we're on the subject of Pantera and since we've had lots of recent ranting about Toshi's production (oh by the way, Toshi is in the new MIX magazine), I always felt like that was a band with really good riffs and decent songs, but the production values were always straight up awful.  The drums sound like they may as well be electronic, the guitar tones are always sterile scooped mid garbage, and the bass tone was never anything special.  I feel like if they'd forced Dime to play a real guitar through a real amp with real distortion, and had someone record them that knew how to make drums sound live, their albums would have been MUCH better than they were.  Oh well.

I THINK YOUR HOPES ARE TOO HIGH.  ALL THE FANS AT THE SHOW WHO ARE REALLY WISHING DOWN WOULD PLAY MORE MUSIC ARE ALL THE FANS THAT ARE FROM HERE, WHO HAVE SAID THEY'RE GOING TO LEAVE AFTER THE MELVINS.
So true Down fans are actually there to watch Phil rant?  I might be a Down fan after all.
NO.  MOST OF US ARE THERE FOR THE MUSIC.  LISTENING TO PHIL RANT IS SOMETHING WE HAVE TO ACCEPT IF WE WANT TO LISTEN TO THE MUSIC, MUCH LIKE GUNS N ROSES FANS HAVE TO ACCEPT FROM AXL.  OR HOW SLIPKNOT FANS HAVE TO ACCEPT THE FACT THEY HAVE NO CLUE WHAT THE FUCKING BAND MEMBERS LOOK LIKE.  OR HOW MELVINS FANS HAVE TO ACCEPT THE FACT THAT BUZZ IS ALLERGIC TO BRUSHES AND COMBS.

I COULDN'T DISAGREE MORE, EXCEPT POSSIBLY FOR THE COWBOYS FROM HELL ALBUM.  BUT THAT ALBUM WAS STILL A STARTING POINT FOR THE BAND IN TERMS OF COMMERCIAL SUCCESS, AND THEY WERE STILL COMING OUT OF BEING A BORDERLINE OR FULL-BLOWN GLAM ROCK BAND, DEPENDING ON YOUR POV.  I'VE ALWAYS LIKED THE PRODUCTION ON PANTERA ALBUMS, AND NEVER THOUGHT, EXCEPT FOR CFH, THAT VINNIE'S DRUMS SOUNDED ELECTRONIC.  I'M ESPECIALLY AT A LOSS FOR WORDS OVER YOUR OBSERVATION OF DIME'S GUITAR WORK.

You misunderstand me.  I think Dime was a phenomenal guitar player and very talented.  I simply can't abide scooped mid hyper compressed distortions like the Boss Metal Zone.  Give me a dirty ol' Rat or Fuzz Face any day of the week.  I want an electric guitar (especially in metal) to sound like it's gonna melt your face off, and you just can't get that without midrange.  Most of the tone of an electric guitar is in the mids.  Scoop those out and you just killed the sound of the instrument.  And while I respect your right to like the sound of the drums on Pantera records, they sound like balls.  Overly clean, compressed, and sterile.  If Pantera had been recorded by someone like Albini who can really capture the sound of a band in their natural state and not overproduce them, I'd probably still listen to those records.  As it is, I just listened to Pantera yesterday for the first time in almost a decade and instantly remembered why I stopped listening to them.  I'm glad you like that sound though!

Hahaha, is that true?  I had no idea.  Awesome factor +1

That's fucking rich.  I bought some of their music years ago based on the Trey Spruance connection, but never knew about the Hamburger thing.
