Its gonna be interesting to see what the "mainstream critics" will think of this album. Very straight-forward record...I think even normal metalheads could .appreciate Senile Animal.

I really like Civilized Worm. It's something I have not yet heard the Melvins do much of yet, really harmonizing vocal lines.  Im really into it.

Hardly. One time I was friends with one metalhead and I kept borrowing him Wizard / Khanate / Buried at Sea / Sunn O))) cds and he wasnt into it.
So I gave him High on Fire's BBW record, thinking he would appreciate the crushing power of HOF. Wrong. He was like: "I dont know man. Them riffs doesnt cut it for me ..."

I don't know if you can call someone a metalhead if they don't like High on Fire.
Hail, not fail.
PS:  fuck him.

I haven't heard any leaks yet, and i refuse to make a
decision until Oct 10th but;

Man I'm literally crying tears of joy while listening to this!
And it's not the residual E playing havoc with my joy receptors!!
Not a word of a lie. I cannot believe how great Buzz and
Jared sound together! And the drums with Dale and Coady
doing little fills and rolls between the beats of each other
is superb, they sound like John Bonham x 2!! I would venture
to say, only three songs in, that this is the finest Melvins record
they have recorded in the modern era of their existence.
I will be buying this when it comes out, I will be telling my friends
to buy this, and I will be amazed if they don't crack the mainstream with
this and break big in some way. This thing has radio all over it.
What a pleasure it is to be a fan of this band, and an honor to be
involved in their orbit, however minimally we are, with the board
we mod at. This is a piece of sheer brilliance. I'm literally crying, did
I already say that??

all my love,
Brad

I agree with everything you say accept this little part.  me thinks the melvins already had their fifteen minutes of mainstreamity.  back when houdini came out.  the whole nirvana, grunge wave was their moment.  they rejected it and continue to reject it.  now they are too old (as a band) to all of a sudden break into the mainstream.
if they opened for tool and didn't start getting every tom, dick and redneck to buy their album, they never will.   I'm thinking they will continue on their cult path.  gaining some new fans here and there, but losing some old ones to marriage, kids, jobs,   you know.... grown-up stuff.

and this is why I love the melvins.

by the way conda... do I sense a little deja-vu?     :D

E stands for Emotions.
