Most of the Down fans I've read are really excited to see the melvins; they're coming to this forum to learn more about the melvins and their fans, UNTIL they read this thread.

Here's a major Down forum:

Yea, I think any problems between fans at the shows are going to purely be a result of this thread.  And like Rizz said, the 12 year olds.

I don't post a lot but I've been ghost reading on this forum for almost five years now.  (and it's the only forum I've looked at since the official Ipecac one closed)

I've come to the conclusion that as a true Melvins fanboy at heart living in the American South I was:

a.)  the only one "here" that was REALLY excited about this bill, as a fan of both Melvins and Down (sporting a Pantera shirt as I type)

b.)  the only one "here" that truly "gets it"... I mean come on guys, Buzz deciding to open for a Phil Anselmo-led band for their 25th anniversary tour... FUCKING CLASSIC MOVE

c.)  the only one thinking that the Melvins, without question, SHOULD BE the openers on a bill like this (Weedeater playing first of course)

Lastly:  a tour was supposed to come to fruition with Weedeater, Hank III, and Down earlier this year, it was actually announced... and now it's Weedeater, Melvins and Down.  You see?  You can play all sorts of "Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon" type shit there and win in the first move.  And Hank isn't playing in Europe until August 21 so yeah, expect all sorts of whiskey-drenched surprises on this tour.

I am just about in 100% agreement with this.  I'm a huge fan of the Melvins, a huge fan of Weedeater, and while I'm not a HUGE fan of Down, I do like them.  This sounds like a great show to me.  I mean the Melvins have played with quite a few bands I can barely stand (Rush, Kiss, Tool, White Zombie, etc....), so let'em play with one great and one decent band.

It could be alot worse.  For instance Melvins could have decided to collaborate with Zakk Wylde.  Imagine if they were reduced to singing about beer and hell yeah and fuck yeah and I wanna fellate Ozzy and playing lightning fast meaningless shite solos.  Zakk wylde personifies everything that is wrong with America or New Jersey at least.

Personally I think this whole Down vs. Melvins issue is overblown.  Down have some excellent filthy distorted monster riffs, they perform well live and perhaps Melvins are even fans of their music.  As for the whole Phil Anselmo is an idiot opinion, well since when was rock or metal made by intellectuals.  When Phil doesn't take ten years to complete one sentence he can actually come acroos as quite articulate.

In interviews with Buzz I was never blown away by his genius opinions.  He comes across as just an average iq Mc Donalds lover.  He writes good tunes, he has integrity but he's not exactly Einstein and neither is Phil Anselmo.  One thing I will say in defence of Down fans is that they definitely would not be gullible or stupid enough to buy a Down equivalent of "Colossus of Destiny"  like all of us supposedly cultured and intelligent Melvins fans.
Ridicule is nothing to be scared of.

This thread is why I decided to fuel the fire.  Is anyone really upset from this board?  I assumed we were all just dicking around because a few of them decided to troll here.

C.O.D. is a brilliant album and a joy to listen to.  Wish I'd been there to see it live.

Word. I love Weedeater and kinda like Down, so I'm pretty content with the bill. If I remember right there was quite a few people bitching about how the Melvins were only playing with Big Biz...

this tour is about one thing... cash money. nothing else.

i'm sure buzz is getting some kicks out of this. putting the fans panties in a bunch having to deal with juggalos with no make up at every show.

up next: melvins open for skrewdriver!
Judy is mad.🤣

If it were really about the money, the Melvins would be going on tour with the Jonas Brothers.

Bun E. Carlos said that the goal of touring is: "less gigs for more dough."

Or KISS!

just thinking about how shitty the posters will be (if there are any) when the billing on them either equates the two bands or is topped with down.

I only saw the melvins open once for a "bigger" band...wasn't a good scene. I'll pass on this and wait until the next swing through NY...which won't be too long a wait, I'm sure.

one good thing about this tour is that it will be a chance for people in a bunch of cities to see them who normally don't. I'd imagine there will be many, many dates.

if it's a cash grab, good for them...if it's not, maybe then this can still be stopped?
