What/Where/When was your first Melvins show?

In Detroit, you always see the same people at all of the shows.  You and I are probably removed by about 4 friends. 

can you say "dinosaur man"?   remember him?  older guy. short, with a beard and longer hair. wore a green army jacket with a rubber dinosaur mounted on the shoulder.

how about this guy:   short, billy goat goatee.  stocky and kinda homely but had the most knock-out gothish girlfriend I have ever seen. this chick was HOT.  long redish hair, glasses,  and always had on some gothy-type sexy outfit with like striped nylons and knee-high boots.   the guy was always really friendly.  always said hi to me at all the shows from recognizing me.  haven't seen him (or her) at the last few I've been to.   but I have always commended him on his smokin 18 year old looking girlfriend and his willingness to go face first into the pit.

oh and by the way... put me down for 5 friends out motown-style at best.

I think they began with the mumus around 99, maybe 2000. 

Yep, definetly arround the Trilogy era is when I noticed the tunics.

I have a live recording of them in New York from 2000, and while talking to the audience, Buzz mentions "we're wearing mumus tonight, and every night this year because that's what we promised ourselves we would do."

Tacoma. I think it was '87 or '88. They opened for Killdozer. I wish I could remember more of the show. My friends and I sneaked in several bottles of malt liquor in our baggy pants (serving a purely functional purpose here, incidentally; this was before either of these items were widely popularized by Negroes and skateboarders; or perhaps it wasn't). I do recall the ride back to Seatown in my buddy's '74 Impala. There was a lot of talk of how Killdozer, whom we'd journeyed to see, were "blown off the stage" by the Melvins. My younger self tossed off comparisons to Zeppelin's first tour opening for Vanilla Fudge before I tossed my tacos out of the window and fell asleep.

Perhaps you would be more credulous if you could repeat the experiment. Imagine a rushed dining experience at Taco Time, followed by a couple of lukewarm Red Bull torpedoes (the 40-O's, not the cocktail mixer for homosexuals). Then stand next to Buzz's amps for a short but brutal set, which is itself only a prelude to Killdozer's dirges about hamburgers. Come to think of it, it must have been the mixture of fast foods that provoked the reaction. Mom warned me...

Can't believe I forgot this!  Drove up to St. Louis to see them with Gwar at Mississippi nights!  I believe it was summer/fall 1989 Ozma tour.  They cancelled!!!!  Wonder what happened.  Gwar was great!  Me and buds had early am breakfast at Denny's and we were all covered in gwar red and blue blood.  The stares we got!

For some reason I doubt this one.  I hate to be like this but I remember the Gwar/Melvins tour being in the early to mid-90's and it was with Mark on bass (Joe? I party....) Definitely NOT Lori...

And just to toot my own horn it looks like no one can beat '85 ...........

My friend reminded me of this the other day.  I remember going for Gwar, I was  like, "are you sure",
and he insisted we drove up for gwar/melvins.  Maybe, I have the year wrong.  Could have been mid 90's as you say. 

Saw the Cramps at Mississippi nights!  That's another story!  Halfway to St. Louis, I started having car trouble, it didn't break down, it just didn't want to go.  I had to be at work at 6:45 the next morning.  There were 3 of us, 2 voted go to the show!  We made it there and back and I wasn't late for work!

Can't remember the year.  Mark D. was playing bass.  It was Stoner Witch Tour I believe. I'm gonna guess 1994.  Memphis, TN the New Daisy Theater

I was at that show! Also my first. It doesn't show up on Setlist.fm or the tour archive here! I think it was spring or summer of that year.
