The older I get, the more I tire of Buzz's shtick.

Conversely, the older he gets, the more Dale seems like a down to earth, grateful guy, happy to be doing what he's doing.  Bring on the next Altamont album.

I'm upset theMelvins were written off as loud music by someone in the industry and in the know (working with underground, edgy artists in the backlight, hardly getting recognition) and THEN responding publicly, when he gets called out over hearsay, like a whiny and under-appreciated bleeding heart scene hero.

The melvins are more than just loud music! They have humor and poise, loud and soft moments, and bizarre turns of sonic phrasing. Of course...if I didn't consistently creat what I wanted, when I wanted, for people who liked what I did and asked for more but different versions of the same, then I might, um, run KillRockStars too.

" I hardly ever listen to him"
"An album can get a bit draining"
" the vocals sound nice but often samey in a way that is fatiguing"
" When I hear the guy, I typically get in the mood to turn it off "
" I usually stay the hell away from stuff with "that" aesthetic"

Sterling Endorsement.

Haha.  Yeah, I mean it's not quite up my alley, but I don't think it is bad at all.  Some songs are downright good.  If I'm in a mood to listen to downer singy guitary stuff, I just prefer something like Nick Drake or Bert Jansch, but they have more of a folk vibe to Smith's pop.  I do like lots of stuff that can be a bit draining... sonically that is... trying to think of an example....  Actually Big Black, which I love, can sound drainy if the mood is not right.

It's more about ear fatigue.  Does anyone else get that?  Where certain frequencies appear a lot in a band or album and they just sort of tire the ear.  It can sound good, but tiring.   Live shows can sound that way sometimes due to the recording quality.  Elliott Smith does this double tracking thing with his vocals that sounds nice, but it tires my ears after a while.

Here's what I hear...

Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, Big Black, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, but it tires my ears after a while.

I'd say this:

the older MELVINS get...        the more it becomes important to have a steady income and have a "career" as opposed to say... sex, drugs and rock-n-roll.

in other words: when you're 25 and living on someone's couch you have the freedom and the rebellious spirit to do anything.  when you're 45 you have a mortgage and hungry children.

this does affect one's attitude and battle plan.

The only CDs I own from KRS is the Thrones one, and both Marnie Stern albums.(which are great) This guy's an asshole, and he probably needs the attention. I don't know or care about anything else on that label. Probably all typical gay hipster shit.

anaconda

hahahaha the label is called Kill Rock Stars, and Slim's trying to kill a rock star, but his attempts are futile.
KRS is almost as wimpy as the garbage that T&G have glommed onto in the last few years. Blonde Redhead etc..
fuck pansy music, heavy rock with an intellectual edge is where it's at ... and that's Melvins. period.
