Bullhead and Stoner Witch hardly count as 'usual fare' anymore though, do they? I mean, Stoner's like 10 years old at this point...

Sorry Grachan, but if you're going to post here you're going to have to like the right albums, and you definition of what "rocks" better be in fucking line as well. Otherwise you're just a second rate Melvins fan.

Kevin: Second rate?

Buzz: Third rate.

i think anyone would say that when a song "rocks" it means that it's going full-bore and it's a rock and roll song. that word is inappropriate, i think, when describing lustmord's stuff or ambient stuff in general. you can like it and think it's good and think it rules, but saying it "rocks" doesn't really make sense. grachan's already explained himself, though, so no need to bring it up again, right?  8)

Forget about grachan. Who cares if he's explained himself. You don't even know why he would even post here, remember?

I think Shevil rocks.

I don't think that's neccesarily true. While most use the term that way it is often used to mean simply "good and exciting".

where does the term "rock" come from? rock music. when you think of "rock music," do you think of quiet, ambient songs?

look at all the songs from the 50's that talked about rock (defined it, really) and what it was. it was about going crazy, getting wild, whatever. the term "rocks" means something rocks and rolls, which means it is wild and crazy and full of real energy.

you can use the word however you want, but i can also suggest to you that you're not using it correctly. you're using it in that catch-all, teenage girl way, the way they say their new shoes "rock" or their leather-bound journal "rocks," or that nelly or ashlee simpson "rocks."

Well actually rather poorly said: bullshit - it is EVERYONE'S universe. Everyone lives in the same universe. Pretense - Some are such ultra-individualists that they like to think they can 'own' thier own private meanings for words...

Come on tell us - what is it that you are saying that 'rocks' about 'Shevil' or 'The Man With The Laughing Hand Is Dead'. What do you mean when you say that these songs 'rock'?

lemmeseethatrectum

fucking "queen" ROCKS! (not that shitty band with the HIV singer, yes i know his name)

Who says that only teenage girls use the word "rocks" in the way you suggested? Is that some sort of power play intended to circumvent us with the values you place on "manhood"? Shall I categorize that bullshit with your requirements to post on this board as a "melvins fan"?

I'll admit I was being pretentious, so for Idiotboy, there's some birthday cake waiting in my fridge. But I was being pretentious in defiance of Toni's malevolence in stating his opinion. To tell anyone that they "don't understand why they would even post" here on this message board simply because they use a VERY pliable word (rocks) in a way that he considers weak or useless is pure belligerence. It's abusive, and an attack on one's fanship. And Toni did so to support his own limited point. So, in essence, I was saying "FUCK YOU" for that belligerence.

I'll add to that a "DOUBLE FUCK YOU" for having neurons that don't recognize the fact that the meaning of words in any language, including english, is not static. Word meaning changes with social current and ideology. Medical, legal, Internet and Hip hop culture alone change the language everyday, adding new words and changing the meanings of existing words. Even your unabridged 52 volume Oxford English Dictionary that you paid big bucks for is limited as soon as you put it on your bookshelf, so think about that next time you feel like the paragon of all melvins fans as you listen to one of the "albums that rock". Hell, think about that next time you're wondering about Buzz' "lyrics".

You think all the values and definitions of the '50s are still in effect? Did it ever occur to you that some people experience the same energy and euphoria with very subtle things, such as songs like They All Must Be Slaughtered? (hence the appropriation of the word "rocks" with a new meaning and within a new context) Or does all that bullshit and "ambient" music just equate to some form of ballad to you? What's the matter, Toni? Is "ballad" not masculine enough for you? Is your real problem with The Melvins' more inaccessable and softer material really a reflection of your personal gender issues? Do you need Elvis and his gyrating package to prove to me that I don't know what rocks?  I'm sorry, but I don't buy it. Word meaning is up for grabs, just like the experiences of Melvins fans that come to that same music with varied, individual sets of signifiers hardwired to their minds.

And your version of "fanship" does not define that of others. I can't stand moronic, masterbatory abuse, especially from people who are obviously intelligent. So count on more pretense and bullshit everytime you feel like sticking your dick in someone's face and calling it your opinion.

The universe, and how it is experienced, is up for grabs. Just because Tony is conforming to a specific program that opiates his ideology does not mean that I have to accept his definition of the universe. Especially if that universe relies upon a beligerent dogma that I don't accept.

Quote from: idiotboyPretense - Some are such ultra-individualists that they like to think they can 'own' thier own private meanings for words...

Within my own experience of the same universe you inhabit? Yeah, that's right. But if that's your definition of pretense, then you're just as pretentious as I am. You don't own the authority on the meaning of words. You can't even tell me where to find it. Which ultimately means that you're faking a percentage of what you say, write, and do. Just like everyone else.
