I hope you know I wasn't calling you out personally to defend your opinion or accuse you of shitting on others opinions. I was genuinely asking a question, directed to no one in particular, that I have asked myself.

It was hard to tell.  Either way, cheers!

No disrespect, but I don't think listening 3 times before passing judgement is adequate time. There are plenty of albums/songs out there that you could listen to hundreds of times and possibly still not get it. This could also explain your change in taste for Oingo Boingo. You yourself has changed, so now you get it. I personally listen to stuff now, that some 20 years ago snuffed at. I even hated Lysol. Thought it was a drawn out mess and a half assed attempt to play some cover songs. Then something one day clicked. It all made sense. Trust me, just put it aside and come back to it. It will call you when its ready. Then it might just make sense.

3 is the minimum and it's not a set number.  If it's something like Nickelback, ICP, generic nu metal, boy bands I tend to give up pretty quickly.  If it's something like an album I don't like by a band I really like I tend to wait a lot longer.  I tend to be patient with bands I really like.  It took me about 5 years before I thought Era Vulgaris was a good album!

I wouldn't say my taste in Oingo Boingo really changed.  I always kind of wrote them off as the Weird Science band.  I still don't think that's their best song.  If I had heard tracks like Insanity, Only a Lad, Just Another Day, Wild Sex, No Spill Blood etc I probably would have gotten into them a lot sooner.

One of their best imo...

Yep!  Great song.  You should check out their farewell show sometime.  At first I rolled my eyes because it looked like they were trying too hard to be "alternative" but I actually really enjoy the extra energy.

Oh right, back to topic.  Hold It In is a good album.   :toke:

This is the Hardest to listen to melvins album for me of all time...its actually on a level of intense that goes over most peoples heads, causes Anxiety and trips me out when I play it, too much to relate to.  :(

There's a psychedelic scaffolding holding the whole thing up.
Leary is CRAZY!

I love this album!  So many catchy riffs!!

I'm going to say that this album is not one of my personal favorites by them comparably. Enough time has passed and enough listens have been given.

I agree, never thought I'd hear a demented surf rock sound ala Messer Chups or southern rock Melvins....and whatever the rest of the record is.

Yay! :) I made an impulse buy and picked up the LPs of "Hold It In" & "This Machine Kills Artists" at an actual record store last night. $16 a piece, figured I should have these in vinyl form, cuz they won't be around forever. These look and sound cool but part of me feels bad because there were quite a few Can & Residents albums(both which I have nothing by) which I probably should have bought instead. I guess it's an OCD thing. With the tour coming up, I thought of it the other day that I want this on vinyl too, even with the omitted songs.

Hot Pants

nothing by Can? crazy!

i probably would have picked up the Melvins LP's as well.

Nobody can deny the power of onions make the milk taste bad and sesame street blasting in your face live front row. Can't wait to see what is coming next. I should've asked buzz for a clue but I forgot!

You got the Hold It In scoop right, but why mess with success? Just retire with a 1000 batting average. Hall Of Famer.  :D
