That one track with the fast guitar licks is actually done by Mark D. Buzz hasn't the technique to actually play these fast notes. Mark D always was a guitarplayer, even before he joined the Melvins.

Oh yeah, well if Buzz doesn't have the chops, who the sam hell is playing lead on YOUTH OF AMERICA?
I don't doubt that Mark D. played guitar on 'Pick it N Flick it', but Buzz could shred if he wanted too.

Anyone know of any other songs where  Buzz tears it up??

it has already been cleared up that mark D didn't play that guitar part on prick (i am pretty sure this came up once before recently).  i agree that In The Freaktose The Bugs Are Dying is a really good example of some nasty playing, i was just indulging in that song but a few hours ago.  whoever says buzz isn't technically good enough for anything is a fool.  i will however concede that he has vastly improved over the years (unless it is just his writing style that lets it shine through.  it is hard to figure out which way that relationship goes). listen to HAT after listening to an early album and you will see how buzz has gotten better...it's pretty neat actually..

i doubt that buzz played that solo on prick - and i doubt that he would be
able doing it. it sounds like mark did it, he sure is able to pull it off. buzzo
IS a good player but he isn't that technical. and why the fuck is everyone
always in a defensive position when it comes to buzz ... he just does not
have to be a virtuoso to write good songs, is that so hard to admit?
and who the hell declared gpt as ~hard to play? hahaha! it's one of my
favourites actually and i just love the way he plays those songs, those
weird timechanges and whatnot, but come on, it's still easy as pie ... you
don't even need to be able to play the guitar coz it's all dropped D, even
a monkey can do that. melvins is not about technique ... it's about very
complex song-structures and weird and unconventional ideas. get over it

i never said gluey porch is hard to play, if that's what you mean.  i was actually saying it is one of the easier ones, hence the comparison.  i only wrote what i wrote about buzz vs. mark on prick because i thought someone had already gotten to the bottom of it and i didn't want a lie to be perpetuated.  i don't care who played the solo because i didn't particularly like it anyway.  i agree, i don't think buzz needs to be a virtuoso, but i do enjoy his progression because it has made a huge impact on the music.

I like Prick quite a bit. I'm always surprised that so few MELVINS fans seem to "get" it. When they started doin' stuff like that they went from being I band I liked to being my favorite band.

Buzz has gotten better since then.  That song "Dr. Geek" is very hard to play, and Buzz played some fast solo-ige before that too.

there are enough speed solo guitarists, and they have been around for 40 years at least, i like buzz on guitar because he isnt playing "the same old crap" and i dont care if he plays the solo on prick or not as his recent work has shown he can do a lot.

what i think is cool about his playing is that he cares so little about showing off.  that first riff in the song p.o.t.r.e. is a testament to this.  i still say that sounds like adam jones playing it though.
