Maybe you could explain your definition of power because the songs sound so weak and lifeless to me...

Every fucking song on ozma is a slap in the face!We played some of the songs ourselfs and if you do you turn into a fucking monster! You don`t play that songs-you beat them no riffs-just hits! After listening that record as loud as even possible you go straight on to do some drive-by shootings!PURE VIOLENCE honestly!

Maybe you should try it with Korn or Limp Biskit. That is a million dollar production. The production means nothing to me. Ozma is great. Emulate industrial Music? Oh, come on reverend. The GPT/Ozma CD is the only one  i can hear every day. There is no usual song construction like on most songs  of the newer records. It

A comparison for you: listen to At A Crawl on 10 Songs and then the version on Ozma...The feel on 10 Songs is infintely thicker than that of the Ozma sound.

Anyhow, as your drummer pointed out a lot of Ozma is just pounding away rather than actually riffing or anything, which is another turn-off when you consider how masterfully the Melvins could construct songs.

Thinking about it, I might just be more of a fan of Mark Deutrom and his style of writing than Buzz and Dale alone...

Experience playing the songs and post a reply afterwards! Maybe that would make you see things a little different! You realy should!

___-----_____------_____

Goin' Blind was a song - they melvins made it an Epic.

it is best listened to in a car, dense fog, cigars, whiskey, beer, driving to the a certain remote river about midnight to fish for god knows what's in that river.

You know what? That was fun...I played it for like 45 mins! I concede this point to you, good sir.

thats kind of ironic. i JUST got through with playing along with houdini and stag.  in the process of playing the latter parts of bootlicker right now.
i concur, you definitely gain a new appreciation for the melvins if you pick up an instrument and play along with it!

Power? Excuse me while I scoff. No, seriously, my problem with Ozma is that the production is flat, tinny, bland and stark that it just kills the songs dead for me. There's no excuse either, Gluey, whilst obviously not setting industry standards is infinitely more pleasing on the ear. You can't seriously tell me that the production Ozma recieved is appropriate for the Melvins at all. Not to mention that they sound like they were trying to emulate industrial music on guitars in some songs...

Maybe you could explain your definition of power because the songs sound so weak and lifeless to me...

Thank you!! Very nicely said. I think the sound was very disappointing.
What do you think you're looking at, sugar tits?

Mario Lemieux

aw, i missed the argument.....still-think-it-sucks!  ha.   i can't play any instruments to try it though.

still, though i think most would agree it's definitely not one of their best

No no no! OZMA is a  fine record!!!
its a formative record for the band by jeebus!!
its got Oven, at a crawl, even the goofy shit like
love thing and candy-o! sounds fine on the cassette copy
of it that i got from my step-dad. its a great album.
the most cohesive one with lorax in the lineup at least!

Ohh cmon now Rev! that was Buzz doing his Public Image Ltd

and i just wanted to say i appreciated the acknowledgement.
in a phrase your response was 'droll' so very droll but witty!:

Kurva

heh, right now, im downloading ozma   (yes i am sick, blame me)
oh my fucking god!
creepy smell is one of the heaviest songs ive heard in weeks

but really, its recorded very badly
the vocals on at a glance / at a stake is so poor comparing to the 10 songs ver. (but the drums kick ass)

and i think Koollegged is the worst melvins song, especially the lyrics
or is it just the vocals?
(im not a melvins lyrics expert, ive never read them, only now - Ozma)

hehehehehehehehehehehehehe

i just wanted to share my thoughts about this record, im listening for the first time at the moment :)

mobmob

many melvins records aren't very good soundquality-wise but i just try to
blind that out and focus on the music when i listen to it. a good amount of
db can make the flatest production sound great. and while speaking about
ozma, after all these years it's still one of my all time favourites. i am
always pushing myself to get into "new" music so it got a little hard, i
mean i heard almost every melvins song thousands of times so it bores
me every now and then - but not ozma.

Hog log

Hooch is one of their best songs ... Houdini is a masterpiece.

Pringles

Ozma and GPT are my favorite album. I own all there record, and these two, i cant get tired of it (even if it was the first melvins album i got and Oven made me discover the Melvins).
Ozma is a classic. It take a while to get into it, but its one of my favorite grunge album:P
-At a crawl on Ozma is a lot better than the one on 10 songs. It has a depressing feeling to it. I think its cause of Buzz voices and the amp buzzing in the background.
-Creepy smell is heavy
-Kool legged is slow and kinda boring but the lyric are cool and i like the orgasm part (the end)
-Raise a paw have cool riffs
Deaddressed and Cranky messiah, these two make the album good. Specially Cranky messiah, you could'nt like this song

And finally, Revulsion is my favorite ambient Melvins song, jsut play it loud in the big speaker and you will see its a masterpieces, specially the part when you hear the amp buzzing behind the riffs, its like a slow giant Tidal wave of sounds crashing everything (just before We reach).

Oh, and Ozma was on the top 10 grunge album of all time in Revolver magazine:P
