"Stoner Witch" is a Buzz O-ism used for rock "chix".
I heard somewhere that King Scratchie from the Warlock Pinchers
suggested Buzz should call an album 'Stoner Witch', which was
gonna be Houdini but ended up being the one after Prick instead.

i would really liked to see some pictures from the shows with the melvins and the pinchers

courtney's performance in the 1987 flick "straight to hell" is flawless, but why wouldn't it be, she plays a pregnant junkie whore.  the movie is definitely worth checking out.  Joe Strummer also plays a part and Dennis Hopper make a pertinent cameo.

Yeah, definitely worth watching. So many cameos but, ultimately not a great film.
Speaking of Strummer, anyone see Rude Boy?

I've seen Rude Boy, one of those slow, quiet films that lacks narration, but does have some good footage of the Clash and Strummer.  Sort of interesting but drags a little.

The Stoner Witch title has nothing to do with Courtney Love.   I dont know where you guys got that from...and isnt one Courtney Love thread already more than we need here.  there was some interview with Buzz from the Atlantic era where he said thats what they used to call all the heavy metal chicks they used to go to school with.

On Stoner Witch there's a cymbal sound that's somewhere between a splash and an open hat.  I've been told it was some kind of riveted together cymbal contraption.  Anybody know what it is or have photos of it?

well this is the Rythym Tech ribbon crasher if that's what you mean...but Dale uses it a lot, not just on Stoner Witch...so this may not be what you're thinking of...anyway, hope this helps

It's not a hat, not a crash, not a china...it's somewhere inbetween.  Sort of a trashy hat/ crash sound with good sustain then a quick decay at the end of the envelope.  Probably something like the ribbon crasher, though I heard it was a custom piece.  Didn't see it on the photos here on this site.

I'd point out the song but the Melvins are new to me and I don't know the track names!  Stoner Witch is the first one I've listened to.

the ribbon crasher is more of a chang chang sound. almost like a closed high hat with a tambourine on it. a good examble for the ribbon crasher is on 'the bloat" at the end where dale is just hitting that one thing over and over again until the song ends.
