They played Capt Pungt -> Berthas tonight.

1996 I bought the cassette tape of Stag across from Park Row City Hall. When did it come out a Tuesday? anyway I would've got it at Borders World Trade Center like I almost always did when I got stuff books and cds but I had to take less time (FOR LUNCH) and that was further. Anyway the Bit was mindblowing I know it was summer when it came out it was hot. I listened to about side one on my yellow sony walkman walking near and on Wall St.  Bar X was a huge blaring trombone solo right there and I was sharing an apartment with a trombonist at the time so I heard a lot of trombone it was even more deranged and 'out of place' face melt for a Melvins tune for horns to show up. but absolutely cool. Blah blah yada yada point is, thAT lower PART OF THe lower half of Stag (now that sounds juuicy) was more more than faithfully rendered tonight with GUSTO and the flavor of lite was
just as tasty that was what nattered to me. the music period

does anyone else agree that this might be the weirdest overall album the melvins have ever produced?  i mean, prick, honky and COD are weird, yeah, but this...  this beast came out on fucking ATLANTIC.  that blows my mind every time.  i think that alone makes it weirder than the three previously mentioned records.  i love imagining the looks on atlantic record execs faces when they first heard "goggles", especially because it comes right after "black bock", which, incidentally, may be the happiest and poppiest song the melvins have ever written, and one of my favorites  .. "doe dee doe dee doe...."

there's just so many bizarre production techniques used on this record, lots of studio trickery, which i normally find stupid, but the melvins nailed it.  i love this fucking record.

no doubt this was one the most inspired albums and eras of the band. also best  production ever together with Stoner Witch's

"The Bit" is such a hard hitting epic fucking song! If I worked for Atlantic and heard that song this would be my response "Ok well that's just about the best song ever! We will put it first on the album, then you can do whatever the fuck else you want."

Finally got the LP of this for completist reasons.... HOLY SHIT this is the WORST sounding VINYL of any Melvins release. FUCK ATLANTIC, this obviously should have been a 2 LP release, way too much music for one record. If only AmRep kept releasing the wax. You have to crank the gain almost all the way to get any kind of normal volume from this LP. So sad since this album is incredible. To anyone who wishes they had this album, own it only as a collectible item. Otherwise buy the CD.

i don't know. love the album but the drum sound is kinda weak and fucked up. like soft 90's rock.

Stag just has a weird mix, but i think that was the point. Stoner Witch has a strong production but Stag has better songs.
