Ok , I've listened to this record a few times and i'm ready to give my thoughts on it and the band.

The record starts off with a bang. Love it. next track same thing really good. But then after a while it starts to get stale. I like the overall sound of this era of the melvins recording, (era:from H.A.T on) its a nice clean, bright sounding era in my opinion. But It seems like I'm starting to hear some stuff that I've heard on older albums. similar fills, similar guitar parts. The only thing fresh about this is Jareds vocals. Which he sings lead on at least one track. I don't know, I'm kinda in a shitty mood right now so that might have something to do with this review being so negative. I was just expecting to hear something as good or better than ASA.

As a side note, I really miss the evil tones of Melvins. I only hear evilness on maybe one track deep into the track list.
If you liked the harmonies on ASA then you'll be happy with NWB. same formula.

You do.  Just so you know now.

If I ever hear "Dies Iraea", I might request it be played at my funeral.

It might sound like a theme to a post apocolyptic western.

"dies iraea"   don't know why the melvins have spelt it that way, it's traditionally "dies irae",

am I the only person on god's green earth that see's the play on classic 3rd grade humor here?

dies iraea....   diarrhea?     hello?   people!?!?  pretty simple stuff here.  who doesn't like a good diarrhea joke?

I did not see that until you pointed it out.  #-o

suck poppet

christian metal band Believer has a song called dies irae that I really enjoy, I think they used it on one of the CKY videos. I would post a link but I'm not the technophile in the family. try this copy paste (www.youtube.com/watch?v=8W7YZorod_0) of a high school project
What's that? Not me. Fuck that, I'm a cat.

or maybe I'll post a link without meaning to/knowing how, thanx to who or what made that happen

Hey all,
I'm a long-time lurker, figured I'd come out of the shadows considering the new album. I'm 18, been listening to Melvins since I was 14 or so.
Anyway, the melodic nature of the album didn't really turn me off, considering I was raised on 70s rock by my dad. I like how the albums structured with two commercial-ish tracks, a long epic, a weird instrumental, three short epics (you should knowwhat I mean if you're a Melvins fan), a short noise thing, then three bizarro tracks to finish it all off. I'd probably give it a 8/10 after hearing it all the way through about three times. That's a high 8 though, like an 8.995
Anybody else think Jared's bass isn't as prominent on this album as it was on A Senile Animal? You can probably blame my shitty computer speakers/MP3 for that, actually.

The city where the Melvins formed was near Seattle.  And they played many shows in Seattle.

So that's why people say they're "from" Seattle, even though they are really not.

look man,   I don't fucking know, I don't fucking care.  all I'm doing is telling you that when I saw the phrase "dies iraea", which I saw on a track lisitng somewhere, and read it to myself the first thing I thought of was "diarrhea".

don't push me man.
