I can see this album garnering a whole new set of fan/dipshit ... teenie bopper QOTSA types

hahahaha sorry thats funny. But one thing you have to admit is the Melvins have not gone radio friendly like Kyuss did with QOTSA.But I think that was just one redheaded guys fault if you know what I mean.

I just saw that redhead poser on tv, playing with QOTSA at a festival, they sounded better than ever actually.

:) QOTSA are good and also Christina Aguilera (i prefer Christina than QOTSA) sounds pretty good, what's the problem?anyway, i love the new Melvins album,it sounds great.I would have preferred a new song to the place of The Savage Hippy  but this is a little thing...can't wait to buy my copy.
about the double drumming,my impression is that they have spent more time on ASA (the double drumming was a new thing for them)with the drum parts than NWB.NWB sounds more homogeneous and more 70  8)

How could you like this piece of garbage? It was not worth even downloading. The month of July does not even exist now.

I watched QOTSA playing No One Knows on tv the other day, from a festival they played last weekend, and I was surprised by how good they sounded. I think it took them a few years to create a new solid machine. The drummer was really good, Josh's playing was tighter and flashier than ever and Troy added some nice effects to the whole thing. Didn't recognize the bassist, but wasn't he in Winnebago Deal or something?

I'm not a big fan of Christina Aguilera but I do like Destiny's Child, Beyonce and also Mika.

EDIT: Oops, I'm repreating myself.

Lullabies to Paralyze and the Self Titled are better than anything Kyuss did. Everything else is sort of variable in quality.

Getting a good pair of headphones made me realize how much Kyuss is just redneck youngsters playing bad butt-rock with a novel guitar tone.

Also, the few tracks I've heard of the new Melvins are really good, though Dog Island sounds like Altamont. And Altamont are thoroughly mediocre except for that No One Knows rip-off they did.

So to summarise, Altamont are better than Qotsa, even though they suck.

I'm not sure whether I heard the Dog Island that you heard...
Personally, I can't hear what reminds you of Altamont in that song. It might be Dale's obvious backing vocals, I don't know.
Everything was beautiful, and nothing hurt.

Centripetal core of soul sojourn the field vibrates to absolution. I climb toward the sun to breathe the universal.

Have you seen the bridge?  I ain't seen the bridge!  Where's that confounded bridge?!

I don't hear it either.  Nothing about Nude With Boots reminds me of Altamont.

I haven`t sneekprelistened to this album as I did with the previous, the only impressions I got is via Youtube where a chap has laid out
Dog Island and The Savage Hippie:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MnA9mzVmLC4

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nBPlztyaYuE&feature=related

Plus of course Billy Fish and Suicide in Progress. (of course, on Amazon f.ex they have 30 seconds clip of each song)

My impression: Promising, a bit in doubt as I always am with music I end up to like after some listening-rounds. One thing I miss though, is a song where Buzz sings all by himself, not with multiple voices overlapping him. The multivoicingthing sounds really good, but I really would like to hear Buzz dominate some tracks totally on his own.

Melvins aren`t unfamiliar with this layer of voices-thing from the earlier albums, but it seems like the bacground-vocals are more dominant after Big Business entered. It could be that I`m totally wrong, and feel free to arrest me.

Although I only heard 30 second clips, the two songs that caught me was The Smiling Cobra and The Stupid Creep.

I`m pretty sure the record will be a monster to hear live.

i can understand what you are saying Schnab, but as you said, after Big Business entered this is the story.
my opinion is that it's great what they're doing with multiple voice,i love this band because always they try to do something new and don't care about us.
it's so sweet when people say, blaaah, the melvins now sound like QOTSA,or now the melvins will become millionaires, fuckin sweet :D
and of course, these songs will sound great live, can't wait for the european tour!

Ha , that's somewhat true. The first Kyuss disc especially. I like them alot, they got better towards the end, but are sort of overrated. I like the fact that Josh has been offered sick amounts of money to reunite & tour and he won't give in. I agree Queens are better. More depth in songwriting/playing. Lately I've been listening to alot of Goatsnake (Dog Days +1). IMO they're overlooked and better than Kyuss.

Still haven't heard all of NWB, just the clips on youtube and what I remember of the two songs in concert last fall. It's only a month away now. To me it's a better experience to have a brand new CD and hear it in it's entirety for the first time with the artwork and all.
