Title: Melvins Go All Dub Reggae On Our Ass!!!
Post by: Ministry Fiend on January 14, 2009, 08:13:58 AM
I've said this before and I'll say it again........Melvins should make a bad-ass Dub Reggae album Melvins stylee!

They should record some rock fuckin solid riddims and give the masters to the legendary Scientist to Dub up inna dee studio as Lee Perry is too old.

Example............here is Scientist stealing the keys to King Tubby's echo chamber and Dubbing Jackie Mittoo's "Drum Song" with Sly & Robbie on the rock fuckin solid riddim section!!!! (Play LOUD!!!!)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g2tFIUXbzUE

Now imagine if you will.......... Jared, Cody & Dale nailing some heavy as fuck stripped to the bone riddimz with a few funky skankin riffs here and there from Buzzo followed up by a good going over by Scientist!!!!!

DEVASTATING!!!!!!!!!!!

Well that's what people said about Godflesh. They said to me "Fiend....this is Godflesh...G.O.D.F.L.E.S.H".....and I said....."yeah and Justin Broadrick isn't a pussy......only pussy's DON'T release Dub albums".....and no longer than a few months later we had Godflesh "Songs Of Love & Hate In Dub".

Now if Buzzo, Dale & co aren't pussies they'll release a killer Dub album (Bootlicker was close although the bass wasn't PHATT enough and there was no reverb and echo action)..............if they ARE pussies they won't release a killer Dub album.

Anyone here that would prefer Melvins not to release a Dub album is obviously a raging cracker ass cracker closet homosexual with waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too many Iron Maiden, Metallica & Nirvana albums.

not trying to pick on you or anything there fiendy.    just trying to give you a little tip.
this stuff is going to wear thin with alot of folks here.      do I think you care? likely not.
but I just want to warn you of the already starting snowball affect against you.

PS: any chance we can NOT turn this into another exchange of hard to decipher insults?

I find the hard to decipher ones hurt the least glen...... and believe it or not I do care about all of the folks here.......except that jzacs71 and Fantomas trumpet.

Thanks for the tip though glen, i'll keep it in mind..........but if you take the time to look at my threads, you'll see I've been provoked by nasty and hurtful posts each time. :-({|=

And anyway I stand by my starting post.....Melvins should make a kick ass Dub album. Doing so will make them the coolest band ever by default.

I hate how fans of dub think that everything and everyone would sound better dubbed out.  Would Melvins, maybe?  Is it going to happen unless someone else beside the band does it on their own?  Probably not.  So either put up by "versioning" Melvins yourself or shut up.  Bloodclot!

Ministry Fiend, have YOU ever put out a dub album?  Now that sounds like a really great idea.  Not that I would have ANY interest in buying it, and I really like Dub Reggae.  But I do know that if you in fact have not put out a dub album, by your logic, that makes you a pussy.

no dub record releases

I think a dub album would be pretty kick ass actually, but they'd have to pick the right producer. Dub isn't so far off from ambient music, and they did an album with Lustmord. I don't think they'll do a dub album, but I don't think its such a huge stretch. Maybe we'll get to here some Melvins dub on that remix album that was supposed to come out.

POTRE is a bit dubby in a few places like Toadi Acceleratio, not echo-bass but sort of beat driven

Post by: I am the Sun on January 14, 2009, 11:40:13 PM
For some reason, I think a dub album would sound mostly like Anti-Vermin Seed, or maybe some stuff off Honky and The Bootlicker. If they did a dub album the producer(s) would probably be Dale and Toshi, who I think would do a great job on it, based on the way that their remix of Caped Crusader sounds, but they could also get David Scott Stone and Lustmord involved to make it even more interesting.

Actually that would be cool.......I'm actually not Scottish and my Mother is English.......as long as it's a Dub album they do I don't care.

They should also do one called American Millitary Roots Reggae Riddimz.....Songs From The Jihad Insurgents Bitch. They could get Bill Laswell to produce that one as he's always producing Dub with world music influences and stuff.

Thanks for the suggestions Farty!

Yeah definately. POTRE is an amzing record and it's that record along with Bootlicker that make me think a full blown Dub album from the Melvins would be devastating......especially with two drummers and Jared's bad-ass bass tone. It would HAVE to be a bonafide Dub Producer such as Scientist that Dubbed it though.......although I'm sure Toshi/Dale/Lustmord would do a good job.

I'd also LOVE Lustmord to do a record with Sly & Robbie. That would be bad-ass too..... Really REALLY dark Dub stylee.

Has anyone heard Ministry's Rio Grande Dub? I was doing the same over on the Pissarmy and eventually that album dropped...complete with George W Bush looking like a Rasta on the cover with a bad-ass Jamaican sound system. Problem was that the music wasn't proper Dub with massive bass and loads of echo, reverb and sound effects!! It was crappy tinny ass skinny ass Industrial remixes of the original songs! BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

Like I said earlier......any Dub album from Melvins would be awesome. Ministry did their Dub album and it was crappy so It's up to the Melvins to prove that another heavy band other than the mighty Godflesh can put out a kick ass Dub album.

By the way....................Al Jourgensen is clean now and it makes sense as his political propaganda albums were crappy and they didn't sell.......this left him with fuck all cash which in turn stopped him buying top grade hammer which in turn stopped him from having a raging habit.

I love dub music. I own some albums by Creation Rebel, Augustus Pablo, Twilight Circus Dub Soundsystem, King Tubby, Scientist, Dub Trio, a local dub band called The Children, Pole and others.

I have listened to Rio Grande Dub and I thought it was meh...

The Damage Manual dubs don't sound too bad.

AOL music has a really good stream of dub music that I listen to frequently

I would love to be a part of a dub band either playing bass or the soundboard/effects manipulator.

As for a melvins dub album, I think Kevin's  bass style would be a good fit for that. On POTRE, I have always thought that ZZZBest and Safety Third had some dub magic going on.

One of his he did with Invaders Of The Heart a few years back called "Molam Dub" is pretty amazing. Then of course he's on numerous Bill Laswell Dub albums too.

Jah Wobbles Dub Reggae basslines are what made PIL so awesome imo. I've always wondered why 99% of Rock/Punk/Metal etc have a skinny bass sound drowned out in the backround when it is the phattest sounding instrument and makes heavy music sound that much heavier?

Lets see some links to those dub albums you mentioned Fiend. I bet there as shitty as the rest of the music you hype (including Ministry). Ya wee trumpet. Rocky Dennis out!

I am actually Lee Perry. I know you haven't heard the name before but most here will have as not only am I completely insane.......I'm a legendary Dub producer. 8)

As for a melvins dub album, I think Kevin's  bass style would be a good fit for that. On POTRE, I have always thought that ZZZBest and Safety Third had some dub magic going on.

You're right they do.......great echo of the drum and that freaky moaning sound in the backround.

Damage Manual were great although I never bothered with the 2nd album as it didn't have Jah Wobble. Anyone here pick it up????

If you like Dub albums you should definately pick up the album "Sly & Robbie Stripped To The Bone By Howie B". That is some devastating bass heavy alien space Dub. Truly unique and dark sound........ cheap as chips on Amazon too.

Sadly It was a white lie and I haven't yet released my devastating debut Dub. When I do though this Melvins board will be the first to hear my amazing vision of what sound can be.

If they did I hope they would make it sound evil and opposite of gospel reggae

Melvins would DEFINTELY make their Dub an evil sound.

Although they'd have to go pretty hard to beat the evil sounding Dubs Justin Broadrick has created on his Ice/Techno Animal & Godflesh releases.

True, too often the bassist follows the guitar chord and emphasizes the guitar on predicatble moments. I am a (struggling) bass player myself (strugglers are the best ones by the way), and I refuse to do that. Maybe that is because I don't know what the guitarist plays.

I am a massive fan of PiL's bass lines but I love all the instruments. They were all a bunch of talented mofo's.

Currently listening to Flowers Of Romance, the one without a bass ;)

Seriously though PIL were such an amazing band. And bass guitar is easily my fav sounding instrument in music hence my love of all things Dub.

The great thing about Reggae/Dub was that Bass guitar was the superstar.

OK, to get back on topic, I just found an old Pitchfork article that said:
Gang of Four bassist Dave Allen recently told Pitchfork that the mixes will include...two Melvins remixes of "He'd Send in the Army" (one being a "dub mix")

http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/article/news/35292-gang-of-four-give-fans-money-online-remixes

This article was written back in '05, and, as far as I can see, the remix didn't get released

so, if you take this into consideration, along with some of the dublike elements of POTRE and the Bootlicker and the fact that they're fans of PIL, a dub album doesn't seem too far-fetched

Now, the next question is: what songs would make for a good dub remix? I'm going to go out on a limb here and say Boris, History of Bad Men, and The Fool, The Meddling Idiot

The Bloat would be awesome for a dub version. The cool bassline is already there.
Let It All Be would be good too.
Cow would be good for the awesome drum solo.

Nice ideas. I think Roman Bird Dog would be insanely tight, and With Teeth would be incredible. To hell with it just Dub out the whole Lysol album. I think Foaming would work as well especially the crunchy guitar riff portion.

I've got an absolute killer remix album called Select Cuts From Blood & Fire Vol 1. It's classic Roots Reggae Dubs that've been tweaked and beefed up basswise even more than the originals. It's an absolute beast! There's a Vol 2 & Vol 3 too but Vol 1 is the best one. If you dig Blood & Fire you should definately look into it.

I must admit I've never really been a fan of Dancehall. It just doesn't have that raw and heavy bass that Reggae had. I don't really like most of their toasting either. Dancehall is more of a digital sound. I could imagine Sizzla & Buju over a AMAZON type Melvins cut though for sure.

But Dub is just Reggae riddims? And The vocals are great on most Reggae records. Excellent singers and excellent lyrics. I mean surely if you can listen to mediocre rock/metal/punk singers you can listen to people who actually have great voices over music which as you say you like???? By the way I don't mean offense but honky rock singers tend not to have great voices as far as I've heard?

Burning Spear
Heptones
Johnny Clark
Jacob Miller
Horace Andy
Bob Marley
Mighty Diamonds

Just to name a few who released fantastic albums and have superb voices.

Dub is more than "riddims". True, it is reggae stripped to it's bare essence, but there is still some guitar, bass,  piano, melodica and snippets of vocals in it with a lot of reverb and echo and filtering. It makes for a cool, head bobbing, spacey experience.

You can't compare reggae with modern rock music. Reggae is more along the lines of traditional rock n' roll you heard in the 50's musically speaking.  In that sense, you have many good "honky" singers in rock. Roy Orbison, Elvis, Buddy Holly...the list goes on. Thats not to say that African and Carribean music did not have an early effect on reggae.

Jamaica is very rock and roll oriented and influenced by the American brand of it particularly and reggae is their brand of it. To this day you have Elvis impersonators playing gigs.

My brother honeymooned in Jamaica recently and the resort he and his wife stayed for two weeks has Elvis impersonators.

First of all Farty......you haven't heard a Reggae record in your life.....well maybe those crappy honkys UB40 but they don't count.

Second......Compare Roys voice to Horace Andy's or Burning Spear's and he's a MAJOR fail.....as are his records. There are a truckload more Jamiacan artists too that cane him......honkys just don't sing as well as brothers.....it's a fact.

As for Elvis and Buddy....they too had voices which to be fair were nothing special.

As you know the honkys with good voices are ALWAYS honkys trying to impersonate a Black man/womans voice. As a result even the best honky singers will always be second rate compared to the black man/woman.

Farty's living in a honky dreamland.

No not really. Reggae came from Rocksteady which came from Ska which came from the fact Prince Buster was refused entry to the USA to buy R'n'B records so he created his own music.....Ska. Jamaican music owes very little to American Rock'n'Roll. They were playing R'n'B records (when it was actually RnB and not MTV's version of RnB now....i.e it used to be great music) on the island and the sound systems  battled eachother by getting in the latest R'n'B choons. Whoever had the latest and freshest imports were usually the most popular sound system. Competition was fierce.

Thankfully Prince Buster was not granted entry to the USA for some reason or another so he decided to create his own version of RnB which eventually became known as Ska. Ska became Rocksteady, Rocksteady became Reggae and Reggae gave way to Dub which in turn is probably THE most influential sound in todays modern music when you talk universal studio techniques and electronic music.

The original classic Ska/Rocksteady/Reggae records are the only other records really which are as sought after by fiendish vinyl collecters as the early Blues gems.....and for good reason......they kick ass.

I mean listen to early Roy Orbison, Beatles, Elvis and Buddy Holly albums and they sound skinny ass and kind of lame for the most part. Listen to the original Ska/Rocksteady/Reggae 7"s and LP's and not only is the singing sublime but the music is funky as hell and the bass sound is a heavy ass earthquake stylee sound which is still the king of the world's sound system woofers!!!

Cool they are having a Horace Andy impersonator at the local music hall! NOT. Elvis wasn't called the "king of rock and roll" because he was mediocre.

And yes, I forgot to include rhythm and blues music in the mix of influences for reggae, but the fact is reggae was influenced by early rock and roll as well. American music influenced reggae. And in turn, dub music influenced other important genres.

I consider dub music more original than reggae. What influenced dub music? At the time it was completly new and fresh sounding. Thats why in the 70's there was a huge demand for instrumental b side dub cuts to play on the sound systems. Toasting would often be added live.

No one can impersonate Horace Andy's voice. It's far too unique.

Elvis just impersonated the black man. There were many out there at the time whom were far better singers and musicians. For obvious reasons they didn't get big record deals like Elvis. The real "king of rock'n'roll" is actually an unknown black man who died without a penny to his name.

Surely you're aware Elvis and all the rest of the honkys at the time were doing poor impersonations of black music because none of the real stuff was getting any radio play due to being too..........well..........black.

No need to pretend. I WAS joking. I was responding to the artist formally known as Fart Lips when he said remix albums are crappy because that means the original song didn't work in the first place. Some remix albums are crappy, depending on the remixers interpretation of it, but not all remix albums are bad.

I can't fuck with this post.. WAY outta my league. very interesting though..

Of course you can fuck wit it brother............are you down with a bad-ass Melvins Dub album produced by Scientist or not?????

And also do you think Elvis and the rest of the honkys at the time were impersonating the black man's music???

I actually would have never even thought of a Melvins dub concept until I read this post... and I do not know enough about Dub to even consider this.. but who knows stranger stuff has happened musically.
as for the second sentence, It is true to a degree but  I really don't want to dwell on Americas ugly history..  I'm concerned where America is headed now..  which is looking pretty scary!  NORTH AMERICAN UNION?  I live in the center hub of all this (KC,MO) and where this new super highway is being constructed and they are already flying all 3 flags there (USA, Canada, Mexico) very interesting.

Ministry Fiend is not the first person to suggest a Melvins dub album. Through the years here I know I made a mention of it and so did some others. Anaconda did I think, and maybe DubEMC did.

I'm all for a it, if it was done right and done by someone who not only is competent with the aspects of dub, but has credible albums within the genre to prove it.

However I think Kevin Rutmanis would be the better bass player suited for a great dub album.

I'd want to get Lee "Scratch" Perry to do the remixing, but I think Justin Broadrick would be a better fit for the Melvins sound.

Scratch is too old. Mad Professor does all of Lee Perry's productions now for the most part. As for Justin Broadrick.......he'd do a good job if he did a tag team on some Melvins with his now Dubstepper old friend Kevin "Bug" Martin...........NO this has to b e done by Scientist.

Scientist Vs Melvins

And the album cover would look something like the one's below.................

You want "Space Invaders" followed by "Wins The World Cup"..................they're the best ones.

One of the most awesome futuristic alien space dubs is "Sly & Robbie Stripped To The Bone By Howie B".....that is the most unique and bad-ass Dub album around. There are many MANY killer songs but one in particular "Drilling For Oil" is the most alien thing I've ever heard. You can pick this album up on cd very VERY cheap on amazon....

Amazon UK you can pick up a second hand copy for 99p!
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-listing/B00000IBE6/ref=sr_1_olp_5?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1232325611&sr=1-5

http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00000GV5E/ref=sr_1_olp_8?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1232325732&sr=1-8

If you like Dub this album will blow you away BIG time. It's recorded in 99 and Sly & Robbies masters have been abducted by awesome producer Howie B who has turned the riddims into a futuristic spaceage alien Dubwise gem.

are we talking about the same band?

its MELVINS, MELVINS.   M, E, L, V, I, N, S.
this site is themelvins.net.

Anyone here that would prefer Melvins not to release a Dub album is obviously a raging cracker ass cracker closet homosexual with waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too many Iron Maiden, Metallica & Nirvana albums.

that might be my favorite godflesh album.

Yeah "SOLAH In Dub" is definately a beast. My fav Godflesh album is easily the Dubs daddy "Songs Of Love & Hate", simply because of the song "Gift From Heaven". The way that monster builds up and up then drops into that slow pounding heavy ass dubwise hip hoppy beat along with that funky ass skull crushing riff is pure class. The album SOLAH has such a warm phatt organic sound to it and songs such as "Hunter", "Gift From Heaven", "Time Death & Wastefulness" & "Frail" make it essential. After hearing that album it was no wonder Broadrick created a Dub of it. Infact I'd say that Godflesh album is easily my fav album from a heavy guitar oriented band

Apparently Broadrick said he was going to make a Dub album of "Us & Them" too. Sadly it didn't happen, although a few of the tracks ended up on the "In All Languages" compilation.

"Us & Them" is easily my 2nd fav Flesh album......the way Broadrick marries his Godflesh riffs and nihilism to his Ice and Techno Animal Dub/Hip Hop/Jungle sounds is spectacular.

Thank you Fester for bringing this bad-ass thread back to life.

Melvins should also do a Dubstep album. Bug aka Kevin Martin (Ice/Techno Animal/God) makes bad-ass Dubstep records which are released through the mighty Ninja Tune Records and seeing as he's palsy with Justin Broadrick I think he should show Buzzo & Dale the Dubstep ropes.

the melvins did country, and that was awesome.
I think the melvins can do anything and it will sound good. remember bootlicker, honky, stag, pigs and etc... to say that the melvins doing something dub-esque is a stupid idea, then I guess its like saying everything they do is a stupid idea.
we all know dale can do kickass hip hop beats ( peeping tom) and big open drum beats like on lysol and on the song the bloat. and that makes a great starting point for a "dub" sound.

Bang on!

It's a superb idea and I hope they walk down the path of PHATT DUBWISE RIDDIMZ in the future. If they do the album would be immense and all the folk here dissing Dub would soon be yelling "FUCKING DEVASTATING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" 8)

Then after they go all Dubwise on us they can release a kick ass vintage Ska album Melvins stylee!! I mean listen to this classic...

I don't know if dub or reggae is the way to go, but after hearing the Earth Legacy of Dissolution album I would love to hear some remixes done by friends and colleagues of the band.

I'm gonna have to side with Glen on this one though.

I think I'll go listen to Grounds For Divorce and try and forget anyone said the word dub.

Why bump it? To show how closed minded he can be? There's about a billion threads that are exactly like this one. He seems okay now compared to those days...maybe...but drudging up old shit like this is just making him look bad all over again, plus most of us are probably sick of his Ministry Fiend days. Like I said though, maybe he hasn't calmed down since...but I still don't see the relevancy unless of course for a little laugh maybe. Not trying to give you a hard time Meez, but I guess I'm trying not to give him one too. Ya know?

Hmm, Ministry Fiend, Juan shit I can't remember but he's been a few but the same every time. Dub this and dub that. It was always easy to figure out it was him under his different handles. I wasn't cursing you, just confused. As Ministry Fiend and Juan he was not very well liked or received here and a lot more aggressive with his posts as you can see in this 12 page thread. I haven't noticed it now but I stay away from Ecumenical all together and one of the MAIN reasons is his thread about his kid. That's also the thread I realized it was him. The racism in the other thread really set me off but I'm able to kinda just skim passed most of his dubby dubwise shit. In all honesty I think he probably really is like the way he is here in real life. Who knows though. You could ask him but I doubt you'll get a straight answer. I'm actually surprised he's still around as a matter of fact because I don't remember much more of a welcoming party for him before I deleted my account and took a break from this place where as someone like Schnabster was also very disliked here but that seems to have passed BUT like I said I stay out of Ecu all together and that's where he strikes the most, so maybe he's still just as annoying (Schnabster that is). If you really want an idea of Ministry Fiends ridiculousness just search for "Meursault"....
As far as trying to figure him out, well I wouldn't bother wasting the time. That's like trying to figure out why Carol (Pinky Slim) is such a cunt. Like I said, I'm not trying to bust your balls but maybe make it easier on ya.

It's amazing how many people can't grasp that simple little concept! Some people completely change when the get in front of a computer it's weird (actually not that weird I guess due to the anonymity) and pretty much why I stopped using most social media. Nothing's worse when you realize some of your friends are those kinds of people. Like I said though, I wasn't trying to bust your balls and as far as I'm concerned some of those old threads you bump bring back good memories, some not so much. I don't think it's nonsense though and I'm not trying to discourage it!
*edit- It's funny actually because when I first came back here one of the threads you bumped involved people that led me to leave this place for awhile. At first I was like "Oh fuck, this shit is still going on!" but much to my relief it was just a bumped thread. I got a kick out of it.

Hahaha classic. I forgot about this one. But yeah the Hammer is correct....the Meursault thread was the kingpin. I read the first few pages and yeah I was on fire here as far as being incredibly annoying.

To be honest with you guys..... sometimes I like to re-live my childhood moments of harassing and annoying the hell out of my older brother by doing the same thing to hapless strangers in the form of inviting them to be as insane as myself by arguing over vibrations in the form of music. I know it's insanely immature......but I am insanely immature.....most of the time. I've been a gigantic Melvins fiend for well over 20yrs and one of the reasons I've always loved them isn't the giant riffs or incredible skills and power of Dale......it's the fact they're totally demented and bonkers.

One of the great things about these type of forums is looking back and being totally mortified by your behaviour should you choose to partake in outlandish & childish antics. hahaha This thread is definitely one of those.

If you look closely you'll see I've never attacked anyone personally nor would I ever. I am certainly not racist or homophobic or a bigot in anyway. However I am obsessed about music and my worst habit without a doubt is being totally at ease with being very open about not liking certain popular bands/artists. This crazy behaviour once again falls into the "lets all argue about what vibrations are more awesome than others".

At the end of the day this is a forum for one of the most crazy ass bands on the planet who credit to them attract fans from all walks of life. Now we all need to take a step back and realise we're on a music forum. This is very un-serious business. But hey......you meet some interesting people and stumble across some great and horrible vibrations which at the end of the day is what it's all about.

I totally accept my behaviour here at times has been horrendous and if I have caused anyone any sleepless nights or distress I apologise. I have a wee daughter now and have to set a good example!

Seriously though this is a great forum which like the band has kept me entertained for many years. I have made many good friends and met many great folks from here over the years and am always happy to take members of the board no matter who they are on wild whirlwind tours of Edinburgh should they ever visit this wonderful part of the world.

Now back to what this thread was originally about......I remember I did a similar thread around 2005 or 06 on the ill fated Piss Army which was a Ministry forum........now Ministry was the first band that really did make me bananas about music after catching them live in a tiny nightclub in the early 90s......unlike Melvins however they made insanely horrible music towards the end of their career...........anyway Angie (Al's wife) posted on that thread saying that Al thought it was a good idea. Not long after we got saturated with absolutely horrendous Ministry Dub albums and Ministry/Revco remixxxxxxxxxxxx albums. Sometimes you gotta be careful for what you wish for. I am happy with Bootlicker & Honky as the Melvins Dubbitty Dubbitty Dubwise records......even if they weren't produced by King Tubby hahaha

So we can blame you for that  :P. That's pretty funny actually because yes those dub remixes are terrible and luckily I haven't even brought myself to listen to the Revco remixes. Is it remixes of old Revco stuff? If it is then I for sure don't wanna hear it. Revco was awesome and I'd hate to hear them not being awesome.
Also good on you for taking the time to clear things up and not getting defensive. Being humble is much more respectful than defensive.

Look up Ministry/ RevCo on wiki. Al made one final RevCo albumin the last decade. It had Gibby Haynes & Jello Biafra (ironically, they sued each other, back in the 80's!). I thought it was ok. But never really listened to it much. The magic was gone. Then a year later, a second album hit. The cover art looked like Rob Zombie. The title was even goofier than anything before. I might have bought that, but luckily I read a review that said that Al had given the name to a young band that he liked. Yuck!  :x

It gets way worse! Search on this site for an article that someone linked to, about the making of A Mind Is A Terrible Thing To Waste. Everybody split into different cliques, but the way Al dishes on those guys, and takes all the credit. Very skeevy. Then I read an interview on here with Patty Jorgensen, about her time with Al. She's a piece of work, for sure, but if 10% of her stories about Al are true, then stay away from Al, kids! Basically, the best thing that ever happened to me, as a Ministry fan, was that I found the Melvins. They do it better, with better results, for less, with less. And they leave a lot less wreckage in their wake. And that's really saying something, for a band with a "bassist morgue"!  :-s

Well looking back on those posts from the first few pages they were pretty hard to get defensive over haha

Thankfully Al did not remix the proper Revco stuff....it was Cocked & Loaded on....Al actually totally pissed all over the legacy of Ministry & Revco during those last years. Once Barker hit the road it got seriously ugly. It started with Rio Grande Dub which after listening to was mos def not Dub. From there we got the Last Dubber and it just got worse with each lazy cash grabbing studio & remixxxxxxx LP up until Mike Scaccia's death in December 2012. Essentially Ministry ended with Animositisomina and Revco ended with Linger Ficken Good. From there it got super silly. Al threatened to crap all over Pailhead but thankfully that didn't happen. He also threatened another Lard Lp....now Ministry's incarnation of a super silly butt rock nu-metal band could actually pull off a Lard LP IMO simply due to Jello's cartoon vocal.

Essentially Al went from trailblazing to following mediocre popular metal/dance music of the late 2000s....and by that I don't mean underground metal, I mean big selling stuff that Al tried to jump on the band wagon of in order to make a quick buck. He even started doing hideous Skrillex style Dubstep remixes of the late Ministry/Revco stuff??!!! To be fair towards the end Al was getting really bad producers to do the remixxxxx albums. Oh well I guess it was his band so he had the right to do with it what he wanted in order to make a buck in the end. Still....they went from interesting music to a complete face palming joke.

I'm glad he didn't touch FLG and Jesus if he touched Pailhead I'd take the 6 hour drive to Chicago and kill him myself. I stopped with Ministry after Psalm 69. I know, I know I've been told that there's good stuff after that but I haven't really heard any of it. Saying that, I do totally agree on the Lard LP just because Lard was ridiculous from the get go and I can't really imagine being able to ruin or make it any worse than what's already out there. Don't get me wrong, I love Lard and I don't think they were bad. Just ridiculous, and that's one of the main reasons why I loved it.

The LP after Psalm 69, Filth Pig is hands down my favourite of theirs. They threw away the drum machines & sampler and just totally hit the brakes. It's very influenced by Swans & Godflesh. The actual tune Filth Pig is my all-time favourite tune of theirs....the bass line is very Nightgoat which obviously makes it rule!!!

I could never get into Twitch. To me it sounded like a softer version of Skinny Puppy at the time (I was/am a huge SP fan). It wasn't until Land Of Rape And Honey that I started to really dig 'em.

I had a friend who was into them back in the mid eightees. When they were on the lollapalooza tour, he recommended the live album, in case you didn't feel like showing up. That is still my favorite ministry release,  but it's not a studio album. So next he told me to get twitch, but I got all the stuff with guitars,  instead.  I finally got twitch, because I'm a completist. It took me a little longer too get into it, but it's an absolutely brilliant piece of work. It's one of the greatest sounds I've ever heard, and it's totally a one - off. The one before it was way softer, the one after it sounds like metal.
