You know, I don't really like Tool either, but I think their track on the Crybaby is pretty damn good. I think a Tool/Melvins album would turn out just fine. I'd rather see a Foetus/Melvins album though

I'm intrigued. My guess is that they'll tour together since Tool has already mentionned they'd tour this summer.

If this can get the Melvins up to Canada for a few dates, I'm all for it. Besides, I still listen to Tool.

Foetus/Melvins album would be awesome. Yeah, i'm not really into Tool either but i agree, an album together could actually work. Might actually turn out quite interesting.

But Tool fans are idiots! I remember seeing Tomahawk open for them and practically get booed off the stage, I'm pretty sure they wouldn't be appreciative if they all came out and did Melvins songs.

Does one of 'em play bass then?  This could be the best thing EVER.  Or a giant letdown.  I'm gonna assume best ever for the time being.  Wonder if that means the Fantomas record with Bozzio is gonna happen too.  There was talk of a Fantomas double album one disc all electronic with Lombardo, one all acoustic with Bozzio on drums.

Probably from Jelvins era.  Adam plays on those records, and at least at the first one-off show in Seattle Adam played and DSS was on bass.  That looks like their practice space, not a club.  Anyone know what that crazy looking 4-channel head is that Adam's playing through?

ive been listening to tool for years, and i still really like 'em... although maynard produces nothing but shit outside of the band. but standing in line before their shows is like brain torture. tool fans have to be the most mindless drones on the planet. its like they complete missed the point that the band is trying to convey. theyre just a-typical metal heads going to see a band thats a lot less metal, and a lot more prog rock if anything.

Yawn.  Name one popular band that is good that doesn't have an army of dumbass fans.  When I saw Tool in 2007 I saw a few people wearing Residents, Frank Zappa, and *shock* even Melvins shirts.  The bigger the band the more dumbasses will come out.  I imagine seeing Pink Floyd or Nirvana would have been a nightmare.

Yep.  Some real strange folks show up at the Zappa Plays Zappa shows, but then I guess you have to be a bit off to like Zappa (or for that matter most music I like).  Nirvana fans would have been bad, but Primus shows have always been pretty terrible.  Used to just be lots of college meathead jock types, but now Les Claypool attracts all those knuckledraggers plus the hippy jam band contingency, which is a lethal combo of morons.

I definitely keep it fairly quiet that I'm into Tool in most circles.  It's a private thing.

ive been listening to tool for years, and i still really like 'em... although maynard produces nothing but shit outside of the band. but standing in line before their shows is like brain torture. tool fans have to be the most mindless drones on the planet. its like they complete missed the point that the band is trying to convey. theyre just a-typical metal heads going to see a band thats a lot less metal, and a lot more prog rock if anything.

Come to think of it I was actually more irritated with the hippies at the Les Claypool show than the Tool fans.  Oh well, that's life.

When I saw Nirvana it wasn't to bad.  There were older folks with their 12 year old kids and even one couple with a baby.  The crowd was pretty cool.

Now when I saw the Melvins and Babes in Toyland open for White Zombie, that was a fucked crowd.  People just picking fights everywhere during WZ.

it wouldn't have been great anyway

these "supergroups" never seem to meet the standard of the bands they came from... ever

they are both too big to compromise enough to make this record

My personal opinion is that Tool should just do a few instrumental only albums, or with limited vocals or words.

I defer to Melvins fanboy-in-chief Adam Jones who most highly recommends Tool and Melvins for your musical enjoyment needs.
Adam writes monster riffs, Danny is a brilliant creative drummer, Justin a superb lead bassist, Maynard writes good melody lines and sings well in the studio.
Buzz writes monster riffs for 4, 5 and 6-string guitar, Dale a genius stellar drummer who understands guitar.
Both bands are greater than the sum of their parts.
Either one can do without vocals as far as I am concerned.
Begin with The Patient, if you must.
...
Hey, y'all....come on out to the tour...especially the headlining shows.....don't let The Pansy Down Division scare you off, and line Walsby's pockets !

I'll give it a shot.  Full disclosure...major Melvins fan since pre-Bullhead.  I'm fine with Tool.  Don't love them or hate them and over the years have become wayyyyyyyyy bored with them.
Anyway...the first time I heard Stinkfist I swear to you my first thought was..."Adam's been listening to some Melvins recently..."  This was '96 before any real link with the band had occurred (tour support, etc...).
Anyway, that's the best I have.

K-Wings Stadium? I remember Buzzo coming out and playing Stranglehold with Tool. That was pretty funny.

Oh and  Maynard was born in Ohio.

The humidity inside that barn was insane....there was a cloud of it. A bunch of us went ice skating in the adjoining rink afterwards.
Do you remember when Adam, Danny, Justin, and I came out before the Melvins played and I addressed the audience saying that "I" was from nearby?
Maynard used to come out before Melvins played to try to get the crowd not to hate the Melvins too much.

Tool rocks.

On opiate and undertow, they were too much "rock" and not enough prog. On Lateralus and 10,000 they are too proggy, lack the rock.

But Aenima? Perfect combination. I love that album.

I wouldn't be a Melvins fan w/o Tool.

heres the problem.

tool does not rock.  they may be innovative and talented and different and so on and so forth.  but I've never heard them rock.

if it not for that one little road block.   they emo more than they rock.

but I think change& is onto something.  its the public image.  I personally know a whole slew of narrow minded metal heads who would bust you right in the mouth for saying tool sucks. people who know nothing of music or innovation.  people who say "tool is really cool but I hated that one album that was like all noise and junk.  they need to release another PRISON SEX."
I guess if I did dig tool I wouldn't tell anybody about it.

still with the THE PATIENT though.   I hereby swear to give an honest effort.

George wrote some monster songs and was the Grumpy Cowboy of the band.
McCartney did many, many more and was a much better singer. Paul can do all styles.
Lennon was a maestro as well, just lazier and more of a dope fiend than Paul....unrealized potential.
I dragged Buzz to a McCartney show in 2002 and he a liked a good deal of it.
Dale is a big Be

In spite of Buzz's glowing approval, I was never wild about the production on the white album, at least as heard through modern technology. It sucks to hear the drums in one earphone and the guitar in another. I know all their albums are like that, but it's most noticeable (and annoying) on white.

Revolver is tops, though, even if heard through the speaker on the original Gameboy.
