Quote from: jakobHello! I have a question about 10 songs. I always thought Gluey Porch treatments were Melvins debut album. Then in 91 (?) C/Z issued the 8/10 songs album/cd. However, was this record originally released in 86??? I know about the 6 songs ep released in 86 (different recordings). Was the 91 record the first time those other exact RECORDINGS  were released and if that's the case, why do people refer to 10 songs as Melvins debut album?

as far as i knew that 8 songs record was released in 86 too, then they re-released it on cd in 91 with the extra two tracks.  if i were you i'd ask the people at czrecords, http://www.czrecords.com/contact.php

I'm quite sure that both 8 songs and 10 songs were released in '91. At least the sleeve (of my copy) of 8 songs says '91.
AND it fits in with the discography printed in Melvins Newsletter #1 (WHICH I HAVE!!!!).
To be afraid when you are alone, in the dark, faced with the unknown, the unspeakable; that is understandable fear. To be afraid, mortally afraid, in broad daylight, in a crowded city street, that is to know Melvins.

brian

so they waited that long to release those versions?  that is rather curious.  of course releasing 6 songs and 8 songs in the same year would be rather odd to do as well.  do you know which session occurred first?

This bit is taken from the PITW issue you have on your site, Brian:

wow i hadn't actually read that article since i was in the tenth grade, thanks for pointing it out to me peter, i'll update the discography page soon to reflect that new info.

anaconda

hey, he is a card-carrying member of the melvins army after all. :)

turnacus

is the spiderweb cover the album with mark dillard or whoever
Van Hagar

brian

so what songs aren't on 8 songs?  the last two on the cd?

DubEMC

If I remember the 2 instrumentals " Crayfish " and " Over from Underground " were not on " 8 Songs ".

brian

can anyone confirm that for me?

blacksanta

I can confirm it Brian. I have held 8 Songs in my hand a couple of times. Over from Underground and Crayfish are only on the 10 Songs CD. You can poke around on the net for some pics and songlists, I have seen it listed in some discographies.
Also melvins is gay cuz some of their songs are just noise, i tell you this so you all don't buy albums and find out only one two songs is good on them.

anaconda

it was all part of the larger concept brian!.

Melvins
6 songs 7" / 8 songs LP / 10 songs CD
1986
c/z records. cz 002 / 8 / 10 tracks / 1991

Reissue LP has two bonus tracks, CD has 4 bonus tracks.

Debut EP; early live recording (feb 8 1986), but it's all there: powerful slow motion hardcore, well played & produced. [8].
