It's an annual summer time white-trash fair type thing in Aberdeen where they get a bunch of hogs and smelts them. IT's sickeningly violent thing to do to hogs (or any other animal for that matter) but I am told buzzo quite enjoys it.

This is also where Billy Anderson got the name of his popular band Smelting the Hogs from.

not sure if you're kidding or not, but the name of his band is blessing the hogs

It's important to appear erudite in these 'intellectual papers'... that being said,
it reminds me of a trick I used to use in some english papers:  Stick in a few 'big words',
pull the rest out of your ass, and voila, the teacher (assuming they're sub-par) will likely be impressed.

i had to spin out 500 words to convince the prof to let me do the project. and she's real fine at spotting bullshit. anyway, there's so much to talk about. i mean, how do you describe the almighty melvins to a woman who publishes scholarly papers on hip hop? i don't know if i can cram the entire album into 25 pages for the final project! words about music, very tricky...

seriously though, you proposal sounds excellent. 
i wrote a very short paper on the melvins.  it's a really hard thing to do, especially when much of some of their albums' appeal comes from the visceral experience and bodily enjoyment of such a sound.  the difficulty is compounded when other's don't appreciate the same sort of experience. 
anyway, i am really looking forward to the final product.  if i come across any information i will be sure to hurry it along to you.  i've been interested in a real theoretical [haha, "real theoretical"] criticism of the melvins' music but such approaches aren't to be found.  anywhere.
i think it would be entirely possible to get a copy to buzz and co. after you finish. which i think should be mandatory.  not to make you feel nervous or anything....

actually, i am a little nervous. i want to represent the melvins in the most real way possible. but i have the constraints of academia breathing down my neck. i mean, WTF. how can you translate the melvins into words?
