I understand and agree with elements of the OP's statement. I'm pretty sure what he meant to say was "there is such thing as elitism in experimental music".
People listen to some bands they don't actually like, or understand just so they can say they do. They do this because other people don't know them.
I don't think the term 'Mall-Goth' really makes sense either, if it's meant to derive from "Mallcore" (an American term, so pardon my guess) which is Soulfly basically yah?
Either way, I don't see how this applies to Melvins. I tend to ignore their experiment stuff and class them as a grungey-doom band (inb4shitstorm). Also, Leftover Crack are a relatively generic punk band...wtf.
