I can make sense of the first post a little bit. Let's break down what he could mean by "mall goth". Goth as in the original lonely outsider stand-out as it's original meaning kind of meant, and not the trend it became. So the outsiders of what general people walking around the mall would listen to.

So maybe he's saying we try to listen to more unconventional experimental music to try to be cooler than everyone else.

But the thing is, I rarely find people out at the mall that listen to the same stuff as me. And of course the fact that I don't listen to many of the artists on that list to try to be too cool for the room or different, I just happen to naturally like stuff like that for reals.

Also buttsex.

Yeah really insightful post buddy. You've won us over and changed our minds with your incredibly persuasive message.

Who gets up and decides that it's time to head down to the mall for a soda, but not until they dress like a complete asshat...

someone who is desperate for some attention.

I like how the little girl right by him seems to not even notice him.  I guess that attempt for attention failed.  welcome to 2009.

You could have just left it at that.  Good response though.

Is this some sort of a promotion for Anal Cunt's new album?
If so, it sounds like they have evolved from just calling everything gay.
I'm interested to hear this one

This topic has changed my whole view on music. How did I not realise that the only reason I enjoyed listening to The Melvins, Boredoms, Mr. Bungle, Frank Zappa and Secret Chiefs 3 was just so I could stand out. Fuck I'm throwing all the cd's I've bought from them artists out. I've also really been enjoying Tim and Eric awesome show, Great Job! lately too but thanks to this post the only reason I find it funny is because I'm tryin to be different better throw out season 1 as well  :(

Bitches of Copacabana

Thank god Lustmord wasn't on that list.  I can sleep well tonight knowing he hasn't completely bashed everything that is sacred to me.

What a relief, at least DOWN wasn't on the list.  I can rest tonight knowing that in the eyes of "Important" I can listen to DOWN and still be truly independent, unlike that trendy Melvins shit that I only listen to to be different... :microwave:

I understand and agree with elements of the OP's statement. I'm pretty sure what he meant to say was "there is such thing as elitism in experimental music".

People listen to some bands they don't actually like, or understand just so they can say they do. They do this because other people don't know them.

I don't think the term 'Mall-Goth' really makes sense either, if it's meant to derive from "Mallcore" (an American term, so pardon my guess) which is Soulfly basically yah?

Either way, I don't see how this applies to Melvins. I tend to ignore their experiment stuff and class them as a grungey-doom band (inb4shitstorm).  Also, Leftover Crack are a relatively generic punk band...wtf.
