No it just seems the powerful tom work is fading away or something. It's not the time signatures, that hasn't changed anyway. It's just he doesn't sound like crover as much anymore. Eh whatever, maybe I'm just being wayyyy too picky here haha. It's obviously just me.

Yeah Picky, I would say.

everyones a music Critic now too eh.

Well it works for me at least.

I'd agree goldennugget that Dale has changed quite a bit since even a few years ago but that's always been the case with the Melvin's. I think the days of caveman drumming are over because they aren't ones to repeat old material or signature style.... I do miss the phantom beats and awkward pauses he used to do but hey, the new Melvin's over the last few years is good. Different but good. Always evolving and if they didn't I'm sure it would have all come to end years ago.

Why is an old dog being Judged for new tricks?

I dont think there are practical monetary resources available for the level of touring The likes of Arena level rock demands for any band in this day and age. Given the Age demographic of the band members one can presume the energy reserve would be pushed beyond maximum effort after so many hard Years on the road. They are going to save their Strength and also their hard earned dollars...wont be seeing the monster Rigs if these guys plan on putting away for a Retirement at the cost of a low level admission tickets and supplement that with an incredible home-grown merchandise racket. nor is it economically Viable To cram a Monster size Drum kit into a Rental Van and still have elbow room or change for Gas after all is said and done.

I like to think of the Monster kit as Dragon Ball Z Style Gravity Training after all these years, Dale doesnt seem to take much to get the blood flowing behind an average size kit, he is always warmed up best I can tell...I think that like any Olympic competitor he is Eating sleeping breathing Drum Abuser going in for the big win. He is making do with scoring a victory using whatever gets the Job done in his percussive Arsenal.

Flawless Victory.

With 'Three Men And A Baby' out next month and 'Basses Loaded' in June, that's quite early in the year so i wonder if there is a possibility that there could be a third Melvins record (released by Ipecac) for 2016 somewhere around Oct/Nov or such? After all, the band seem to have a backlog of recorded material sitting around and Buzz himself said last July that 3 albums were "in the can" ready to see the light of day.
Yes!

Yes!

I read an interview somewhere that Buzz said they have something else coming out at the end of the year that he can't talk about yet. And the documentary is coming out too!
Hail, not fail.

I can't believe that 'Industrial Art' (the song that accompanied 'Captain Come Down' on 'Chaos As Usual') didn't make the tracklist for this album. It's far superior to the ironic, tongue in cheek nonsense that is 'Shaving Cream', for example, and a Melvins original to boot! Buzz needs his brain checking.
I don't like either. I do love Captain Comedown. It's amazing to me that someone is complaining about that song.

Captain CoryCory

I dig the hell out of Shaving Cream but then again the impression I get is Melvins 1983 is supposed to represent a far more immature era than usual. Also, I never heard Industrial Art either.

At this point I'm far more curious about the BB, Dunn and Krist tracks.

Buzz said that Melvins 1983 is their more experimental, oddball side. Tres Cabrones was apparently recorded without any guitar just using that electronic gear that Buzz was photographed with a few years ago. To me, those 83 tracks on Basses Loaded have some of the same electro effects and things that the Tres Cabrones songs had.

I dearly hope those three songs are really good as so far this album is pretty disjointed both in terms of quality and flow. About the Krist song, i remember Buzz saying in an interview last year that the song they did together was a Weird Al Yankovic tune. But as far as im aware 'Maybe I Am Amused' is not one of his songs.
No guitar on Tres Cabrones? Am I hearing you correctly?

i literally signed up just to reply to this

i swear i read somewhere on this board that novoselic plays bass and accordion on the song (and isn't that him on "the bunk up" as well?). so if buzz actually claimed they did a weird al tune, that's gotta be a joke in reference to al being an accordion player too.

there's gotta be guitar on those tracks, he's even credited with playing guitar in the liner notes. are you talking about the stylophone when you say "electronic gear"?
That's neither here Nora there

I always thought there was too and it definitely does sound like guitar but i distinctly remember either Buzz or Dale saying there wasn't any. Just made to sound like it was guitar. Still, it may just have been a joke thrown out flippantly in the interview. Who honestly knows with those guys!

I believe you're thinking of the stylophone on Dr Mule. People thought it was a weird pedal or something.
