Nude With Boots has a riff that sounds almost like the beginning of Happy Birthday...it gets me all the time.

Haha, yeah, I had that same exact thought when I first listened to that song!
On a related note, I love the title track.

Nude With Boots is a great record that is still taking some time to grow on me.

It often takes me a while to get into a Melvins record, but somehow I feel (much like with ASA) this album lacks any standout heavy/doom kind of tracks like At The Stake, Anti-vermin Seed, etc.  Slower drums=heavy, heavier, heaviest.

You wouldn't consider The Mechanical Bride kinda doomy?

jam band pop rock

jam band pop rock.    guess I must be missing a few tracks or something.

this album reminds me of why I think so highly of melvins.   and after listening for 20 years I think its safe to say I have a well educated opinion.    I find very little to bitch about.

not even the vocal "harmonizing", which to me takes a darker direction then (A)SA.  you don't have any of that 3 part, barber-shop sound like on civilized worm for example.  any multi-track vocals are everyone singing at once just to create a larger sound. I don't hear the a cappella-ish stuff that came out on the last record.   and as far as doom...   what people call doom today I have never heard out of melvins (cept maybe parts of lysol).  yes they created the genre but I don't think any melvins release fits in the doom category.

pop rock????? this shits all over anything out there that's called 'pop music' nowadays

Doody the Clown

I never really considered anything Melvins have done "doom."  Even though they're credited with inventing sludge a lot I don't think modern sludge or even sludge emerging shortly after resembles anything Melvins.

Melvins know no genres, and again they defy their label with Nude With Boots.

The Melvins are awesome

Well said, DTC.

Would some of their slow heavy stuff be considered "Shoegaze"?

I listened to it.  I won't say much..... but I think it's great.  It's a really good mix.  Billy Fish and SIP sound so nice... although I have listened to the live versions pretty often they're not getting boring. Not at all.  Dog Island is h e a v y.
I think it's amazing that the last song is in the vein of that extended experimental jam they've been playing on the last tour. You know, after Ballad of Dwight Fry.   http://youtube.com/watch?v=txjzaOkfaXw

And I agree with Doody. I don't think of any genre when I think of  Melvins, it doesn't work. And that's why it's so hard to explain the Melvins to others who don't know them.
Everything was beautiful, and nothing hurt.

Have you seen the bridge?  I ain't seen the bridge!  Where's that confounded bridge?!

So it goes, the into part of Kicking Machine is a nod to the intro of U2's 'Still Havent Found What I'm Looking For' from the Joshua Tree.

Anyone notice the similarities between Dies Iraea and the Theme song for the Movie "The Shinning". Sounds like a cover.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=EoHm6UywRTw&feature=related
It's a cover of Hector Berlioz's rendition of Dies Irae.  So yeah, I guess King Buzzo was watching The Shining one too many times during the recording process :o

I just played that at work and immediately someone said "That's the Funeral March from Berlioz's Symphonie fantastique!"
