i'm on half a dozen listens. i need twenty to round out a review. for now i'd say it's ite.

This album has struck me the same way as the last two have. My first thought was "This sounds... normal" but the fact that the songs are so catchy draws you in and makes you listen more and then you start to notice all the little intricacies. It's anything but normal. It does have a very classic rock feel to it, but it's done in a very Melvins way. It just gets better after each listen.

Melvins know no genres, and again they defy their label with Nude With Boots.

Probably one of the best things I've read on this board. 

Labeling the Melvins, based on their past is just not smart.  I think to many people want to hear Houdin, Stag, or GPT in every album.

fully agree with Idle,but i also want to say that is undeniable the last two melvins are more "pop" oriented...or if you prefer more melodic.this is the story with the big business guys,totally different than kevin era,mark d era,joe era!personally  this is not a problem,a buzz or dale's problem,and i think is  the same for every intelligent melvins fan as all the guys in this board are.is not a crime to associate the word pop to the word melvins...in their discography there are songs like black bock or prig and in the last tour if i remember correctly they did a beatles cover.so what's the problem?i have listened to the new album a couple of time,i want to wait the album release to definitely pronounce me,but we are talking about a band that after every album sounds always new and fresh.

I don't think people want to hear old Melvins album's rehashed again. I think they just want the same fee ling they get when they listen to the old albums. That raw Melvins sound (not to be confused raw with heavy) . Melvins albums are very polished these days, a lot of people miss that raw part I guess.

to me MELVINS albums have been polished ever since they signed with Atlantic.  a brief interlude during the AmRep days and back to somewhere in-between on Ipecac.

NWB fits more in the in-between category.  ie the maggot.   it has pieces of the entire MELVINS catalog but its not like any other MELVINS album.    and this my friends, is why its a success.

At 1:26 during Suicide In Progress it seems like the Melvins are about to break into Great White's cover of  "Once Bitten Twice Shy".

And that's 1980's rock, 1989 to be exact.

Nude With Boots has a 70's groove to it.
