meh... if you dont like it, you dont liek it.... I gave it a million chances and i just came to the conclusion that its alright.

glen

its got some tracks I had to learn to appreciate moreso than other albums.

people are looking for another HAT or the maggot.  we should know that wasn't going to happen.  so clear all that out of your mind and try to listen to the album for what it is.
stand it all by itself and then re-evalute it.

the title track came off as completely ghey at first.  then it clicked with me.  this is a totally new song from MELVINS in every way.   thats what makes melvins MELVINS right?

well.... yeah it makes the melvins MELVINS, but does that mean this is their best album to date because its stuff tha they havent really done before? to me it sounds like they have done some of this stuff before but in a better way. the only thing I find different is the amount of vocals and the dual drumming. I dont hate it... i just think its alright. to me, it just lacks something experimental that the melvins seem to show in everyone of their past records.

Great album i think i have loved it since it came out.Just something about the all over sound of this album that draws me in.

The Edge... there is no honest way to explain it because the only people who really know where it is are the ones who have gone over.

Maybe man, maybe. I like the production and the tones and a lot of the vocals, it's just that there isn't a stellar track on it that really makes me go, fuck, yes, only the Melvins could craft something this ridiculously weird and intense and.. Melvinsish. The content just isn't clicking with me as much as everything else I've heard from them. It's a new Melvins, yeah... They're working in a new zone.. Not unlike when they worked with Lustmord and then had a brief flirtation with electronic music, or the way they worked with a really eclectic pallete on Stag... So maybe this is a phase  where they're toying with classic rock. That's fine and dandy and natural and commendable and all, it's just that it's not really a sonic palette that's to my tastes as much. Buzz likes Alice Cooper, I'm no Alice fan. That's the way it goes.

That said, I didn't like HAT or Houdini much to start with either. It's like a way, way more deadpan and intelligent Spinal Tap? Does that make sense? A serious joke, that isn't really a joke but is a joke, but isn't?... Just me?

The Drift, by Big Business... There's an original song that's tickling my in between balls and ass area more than anything on Nude.

Hearing it live as an opener was absolutely great.  I never disliked the song.. but this very live experience turned it into something new.  Can't get enough of it now.      Ahhh what a show.
Everything was beautiful, and nothing hurt.

Centripetal core of soul sojourn the field vibrates to absolution. I climb toward the sun to breathe the universal.

Have you seen the bridge?  I ain't seen the bridge!  Where's that confounded bridge?!

I've tried really hard not to judge songs until I hear them live.  That's when they either work or they don't.  Everything on NWB works for me.

bingo.

I was never blown away by dies iraea until hearing it live.  its a drums showcase.  that comes across so much more intense.

Anybody know why called nwb, think Ido

PrickHonky

I like NWB as a sort of counterpart to ASA, but as a whole it leaves a little something to be desired. I still love it and play the shit out of it, but I can't help but feel like something is missing on this one. As I have said before, I would really like to see them go back to some of the more experimental type stuff like on Honky, Stag, or H.A.T.
What would a woman that fine want in a big, fat, nasty, greasy, fat, stank, bloated, cheesy-backed, 12-sandwich-eatin' bastard?

Turn around mister, and never trust a girl giving her donuts away for free.

(((O)))

After all this time i only realised today that The Smiling Cobra is f-ing awesome! Over the past year or so Nude has grown on me like you wouldn't believe and i think it may be my favourite Melvins post 90's record.

Quotei think it may be my favourite Melvins post 90's record.

A bold statement indeed, considering some of their post-90's gems. I would have to say that this could be their most straightforward record since side A of Stoner Witch, which isn't a bad thing. I love Dog Island, The Smiling Cobra and even The Kicking Machine. I feel like many of these tracks could be Senile Animal B-sides. All things considered, it does stand out among Melvins records in it's basic approach.

glen

listen to this album again after hearing BRIDE.  it will + it.

call me a homer but I'm thinking these albums will wind up with their place in MELVINS history.  however poorly they may be viewed now.

will wind up? like hasn't happened yet? nude with boots and a senile animal are two of my favorite pieces of melvins history. they're on the top with the trilogy, lysol, and stoner witch.
