Hag Me.  it's the ONLY Melvins song i hate.  i take back whatever i have said about Boris.  this is one reason i'm excited to hear the new Houdini...

Man, I used to hate Hag Me until about a year and a half ago. Then I started listening to original Houdini again after not having a listen for ages and fell in love with it. 2 years ago it would have made this list but now I consider it in my top 20 melvins songs list (well at least top 30). Especialy the second part. Dale's drumming in the 2nd part is so simple yet so genius. I used to listen to it while driving to work every morning twice in a row for about a month straight a few months ago.

Set me straight has to be the most generic(?) melvins song...  by that I mean that it is a song that could have been written by any other band in that time and area. I actually like the earlier version more than the houdini ones.

I used to skip over Shit Storm alot because YoA is so awesome. Then one day I let it play all the way through, and found out how great Shit Storm segues into YoA. The last 30-60 seconds of it just boils over to the opening notes. I can't explain it, but it works perfectly.

I completely understand what ur saying, same here...

And I like both versions of it ("Normal" and reversed)

Mangled Demos, 10/26 Songs, & Crybaby ... are by no means gold imo ... but they have their gems ... I'd say I dig 10/26 Songs the least though ... I wouldn't call 'em "worst" 'cause I still dig 'em but definately on the bottom of Melvins cannon ...

As for iduvidual songs ... just off the top of my head:

1. Set Me Straight - I agree w/ some of the other opinions that it's just a generic pop/rock
tune ... never really held my fancy ... either old, mid, or new versions
thou I dig the one on Houdini live best ...

2. The Stupid Creep - I've warmed up to "Nude with Boots" the song ... a better attempt at
the pop/rock formula than say "Set Me Straight" ... or this one
I donno just can't wrap my head 'round this one

3. Revolve (original version) - Totally agree w/ Fester? Metallica all the way ... best song
Metallica never wrote. Not really big on the song per say
but it makes me laugh everytime I hear it ... like it was done
on purpose as a "Metallica sucks" joke ... I've always wanted
to ask Buzz if that was the case ... keep forgetting thou. The
'Electro' version kicks ass thou ...

4. G.I. Joe - God Patton's white boy hip hop blows even harder than real hip hop ... and that
blows pretty hard ... pretty much if Patton's on the mic w/ Melvins its the
"worst" ... there are a few moments of nice atmospherics here and there on
Big Band stuff ... and I dig the duet nature of their "Let it all Be" & "Sacrifice"
but Patton's gotta learn to shut up a bit ... espescially in Melvins tunes.

5. I Can't Shake It - See explination for "Set Me Staight" & "The Stupid Creep"

6. Singles 1-12 - Definatly some real cool shit here ... but mostly just shit ... pointless,
self indulgent and boring ... bet they were so high

7. Mark - the Mark years ... always been my low point for Melvins ... those albums have
some real gold on 'em & I've warmed up on 'em alot since they were released ...
I've explained it all in here before so I won't really dig into ... I just don't like
Mark's touch on things ... he just seemed too "muso" ... his bass is too "on" & notey
for me ... like a frustrated guitarist & his influence & presence just adds/ed a
slickness or something I don't/didn't like ... thou like I said I've warmed up to 'em
heaps over the years ... thou I doubt Mark was all to blame ... it was the 90's ...
                   yuck!

Thinking of those Mark era albums & their songs made me think of "Skin Horse" ... and by
proxy; underrated Melvins tunes ... the 1st half is completely underrated ... even the band
gives it short shift live ... too bad, that first half is completely monumental & just compiments the 2nd half so well ... with its full on drum vibe I think this new line up would totally cook that one!

Leroy

Yeah sometimes I don't care for Mark D's "showing off" on bass.  He's really skilled though.   I'd say that the song he sings lead vocals on is probably one of my least favorite Melvins songs.

COD

COD doesn't even count... it's not even really melvins until eyeflys comes on at the end and thats a great live version.
adam jones probably had control over alot of the COD stuff cuz back then it was called Noiseland Arcade.

It would be as long as a Dave Matthews' Greatest Hits collection: 0 hours, 0 minutes, o seconds.

Just don't talk to Buzz at a Tool concert, and try to give him 'constructive criticism'.

The only thing I could picture putting on a worst of compilation is the entirety of the Millenium Monsterworks disc, but that's just for recording quality and considering the circumstances of the release I forgive them.

Greasy Statement

revolve rocks too much to be compared to anything mctallica did. one of the first songs by the band i got into and have always enjoyed it live.

was this one edited ? I found some stuff on soulseek the other day that said it was from this show but the setlist was twice as long. including bootlicker songs etc.

It might be, I'm not really sure. I'm sure someone around here will have a better answer than me, in regards to that question

I'll show him the knife I just bought ... then I'll ask him 'bout it ...  & we'll have
ourselves a good 'ol fashion knife fight ... then we'll prank call James Hetfield! It'll be a slice!
