I don't want to give away too much information but I agree that Jared's bass sounds way better, that was one of the first I noticed. On (A)SA I found the bass slightly boring, it was mainly supporting the guitar lines, and there weren't many cool hooks like a 'classic' bass player would do. By that I mean a classic bass sound like Mark D could bring to a song, more grooving and rhythmic. I think Jared has mostly used his bass guitar as weapon so far in most of the bands he's been involved with, he used it different than the classic way like let's say.. yeah let's just call it 70s rock, since that term has dropped a few times in this thread already. Listen to the album title track and you'll hear what I mean.

I hope they drop some of the (A)SA material for the next tour. Some of the faster songs off Stag (Captain Pungent, Buck Owens...) would fit in perfectly with this material in my opinion. Ah, it's always a nice surprise to see what songs they're gonna play live on the next tour.

I'm feeling the maggot revisited at times, eg: dog island.

lets talk about dog island.   I'm hearing some maggot there in the psuedo-collapse at the end (manky).  I'm hearing some HAT (the fool) with the crunchy guitar early on and the bass that shakes your lower intestinal system.   its a goddamn genious track.

billy fish:  top notch.  in the vein of civilized worm but 10X better.

the smiling cobra:  ouch.  its nasty.   blow your fucking head off.
suicide in progress: classic melvins.

and on,  and on,   and on,  and on.

in summary:  I really    really like it.

at this point all short-comings in (A)SA are completely forgiven.

Dog Island hasn't grabbed me by the balls yet, other songs have, like NWB, The Smiling Cobra and The Stupid Creep. Maybe I shoudl crank it up a bit more.

I could buy any one of those for $1 at the local pharmacy.            at halloween.

as far as leaking.   to some extent I see the thought process.  like FART says.    it finds its way here to the most intense of fans who are more likely to dish out praises and spread the word.     a marketing scheme on some level.

see?  i can be an open minded team player.

about 3/4 through it starts falling apart slightly.   listen for the bass.    it rivals kevin's low end.   its the fuck down there.
listen for it.

i also needed to add that jared's bass sounds wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy better and so do the drums.
i totally agree, his bass sounds more melvins than bb on this one. and the drumming...dear god the drumming =P~.
i also think it does have that whole 70's arena rock vibe going, it makes me curious as to what has been influencing buzz lately, like the first song does have that somewhat zepplin feel to it.

The internet music revolution has been a huge benefit to independent record labels.  The only reason music revenues have dropped is because only the big 4 and it's subsidiaries really report sales to the RIAA.  Sales to the big 4 record companies have gone down because people on the internet purposely avoid buying music associated with the RIAA, or spend their money on great bands on great independent labels that they discovered by ILLEGALLY DOWNLOADING.  It's not as if the music industry is being held up by the ignorant/dedicated who either don't know how to download music or are blatantly opposed to it.  People are more than happy to support the creators, but most major label artists get advances from the record companies anyway, with the profit of sales going to the label (while the artist is paying for everything that creates the product using the money from the advance!).

That said, I buy new releases from bands I like, and everything I can from bands I love.

This reminds me of Kramer's idea of what's illegal and what not. The conversation between Jerry and Kramer went something like this, after Kramer thought he just came up with an excellent idea, and illustrates perfectly how Kramer's idea of justice reaches a little higher than the law.

"But Kramer, that's illegal!"
"No, it's not illegal!"
"But it's against the law!"
"Well, yeah...."

and now for some good news.

my extremely shakey and questionable resources tell me that Shatz is correct.
this is the album cover for Nude With Boots:

I like it.  cuz that looks just like my little doggie.

That's a nice little doggy you got there then, Grim.

When I first saw this cover it reminded me this:

I would guess it's one of the Osbourne's three dogs on the cover.

molotov

I'm downloading it. Well, well, well...
Probably, I here unique, who yet didn't listen.

I just don't see why someone wants a shit quality recording which is what 100% of leaks are.
Most leaks are CD rips, and sound exactly the same as the finished product unless they are leaked before the mastering or recording process is finished.

It's not like somebody got a directional microphone and pointed it into the studio while they were playing the songs.

I really don't want to get into it,  maybe that was the case years ago, but I doubt there will be any difference in distinguishable audio quality between the CD you'd buy at a store and the MP3s floating around the internet at this point in time.

And if there is, it's because the person who ripped it used a crappy encoder and a low bitrate.  If they had ripped it to a lossless FLAC file or a higher-quality (V0) MP3 using LAME, there'd be no distinguishing the sound at all.

I have a hunch that the advance copies that this leak originates from might not be mastered.  Has anyone else noticed how quiet it is compared to other records?  In any case I'll be buying it the day it comes out, from my local record shop and immediately making a fresh rip straight from the CD.
